@everdebz, I like the big headboard. We have a king size bed, which is large, I think it should have a large headboard but I could be wrong. As for covering up the headboard, my husband did mention that. So I agree, that may be a way to get a new headboard. Thanks!

[Because I had 'bird art' open for another discussion] If you like linen and tan neutrals you could try: soft blue for hb and/or bedding, and soft blue art over dresser.... with current color. Seeing white doors now, it brightens current paint color.

Or paint walls the soft muted blue and art with linen mats?

For my part in the brainstorming: muted green floor, tan walls, soft blue?

@everdebz, funny you say blue @housegal200 mention to use gray or a blue-gray color. Colors I would have never thought of to use.

Photo with bedding turned to show white? I really like re-using and keeping, can you tell? so I just say that though I did hear you, soft/dark green is a nature color that can add interest to a space. If carpeting gets ratty-old, nobody likes that though. :(

@blenheimnewzealand, my husband kept saying to paint the furniture. But I am the one who keeps thinking of all that time we spent stripping the furniture and then if we paint the furniture, and I hate it, my husband will want to keep it that way since he wouldn't want to strip it again. Argg.. but I have to tell you I really like the painted headboard (with no mattress).

If you are keeping the furniture, I would keep the headboard too. In fact, it is very attractive and antique looking. To make it more modern I would either to a Chabby chick look with white or off white paint, or I would paint it a darker wood color.

As long as you have room, more the bed against the other wall and not where the window is because the drape is distracting. Go with a soft color curtain, in a nice pattern and have your bedspread match. I am picture a soft blue/green. Also, have a nice round mirror on top of the bed.

I love the advice you have gotten so far. As far as a pale blue/gray recommendation- I just painted our bedroom Wickham Blue by Benjamin Moore. It is a blue gray that sometimes looks more blue and sometimes looks more gray depending on the lighting from lamps and sunlight. I love that it is like two colors in one. I currently have antique pine furniture and was surprised by how much I ended up liking the honey toned furniture against the Wickham Gray paint. I think since the bed is large and the furniture curvy that using lighter hues will help give the allusion the room is more spacious. Glass bedside lamps (bases) seem trendy right now, particularly clear, and may add subtle interest via shape and gloss without appearing to take up much space. We took a ceiling fan out of our bedroom too to help the room feel less clustered. On the ceiling recessed lighting or simple track lighting might be nice. Lastly I might suggest a framed mirror to the wall across from the window if the view is decent to help double your space visually.

BM Wickham Gray wall color. Looks nice with french furniture and chalky paint as suggested previously too.

I agree with sunny. The headboard is so gorgeous. painted it would be great. I would paint it in shiny red, then leave the rest as is. can you change the location of the bed?

Paint to neutralize headboard and it'll allow for a bit of pattern and lighten the look/ let 2-toned pieces 'show' a bit more...Already mentioning cool walls. Or if you want all warm like below: contrast of a dark piece, and some blingy chandelier, etc. that's another choice. Maybe put this type of canopy over window, still allowing opening?

I would also put the bed on the long wall, use the night table and the low dresser as second night table balance with lamps of different heights.

use a dark floor or whatever wood floors you have in the rest of the house

Just a suggestion if you are getting new wood floors - decide on the layout now so you're less likely to scratch the new floors moving furniture.

@sacapuntaslapioz, well I have my husband on board for all the changes I want to make. I started looking online for a bed spread but I want to see it in person before I buy. Hopefully this week I can get to the paint store. But we are super excited to finally work on our bedroom. I promise to send you pictures as soon as it is complete.

Thanks @Theresa Holt, I did mention that to my husband but we have decided to strip it first and see how it looks. The stain on the headboard is a different color than my furniture. If after we strip it and don't like it, then we will turn it into a padded headboard.

Keep your headboard! Its so unique. It just needs a wall of its own and it will look amazing.

@er612, I am keeping it. I have had so many positive comments about my headboard.

Gorgeous French Provincial furniture. Too bad your husband must have his TV in there. We could rearrange so much easier w/o it. Can you buy new drapes? Go with grommet top from top of your wall to the floor. Take them about 6" beyond the sides of your headboard. Go with the blue paint as suggested & try to match the drapes to your wall color as close as possible. Look at ideabooks for French Provincial to see if you can find a bedcovering you love. I can see one in a velvet top with very full satin skirt.

Buy a Persian area rug that will fit about three feet under the bed & have it go beyond the sides as much as possible and over to the TV wall. It can be any color, however it should have some navy in it. Buy some fabric in a light blue toile to cover two euro pillow forms. Buy a long roll pillow in a yellow velvet. Position the euro pillows centered on each side of the bed & place the yellow in the very center in front.

Buy two very large landscape paintings (prints) to hang on either side of the TV. Then buy a series of 12 X 12 prints with white frames so they will fit under the whole grouping each about two inches apart. They should go clear across the whole area as though it is a gallery wall.

If you have two nightstands, buy matching yellow ceramic lamps 32 " tall for the nightstands. If you only have one nightstand, even better. Buy one the same height as the one in either a painted off-white or a mirrored one (that is smaller than the one you have.) Use plain off-white lamp shades... Place some other prints in white frames surrounding an ornate mirror on one of the walls you can see from the bed. Place some framed photos of family on the dressers along with some pieces of navy & yellow vases or pottery with them. Place a smallish white flokati rug on each side of the bed to step onto when you get out of bed.

I would transfer the focal point in the room to a fabulous layered bed, with beautiful bedside lighting and artwork. The hard-case pieces are a bit distracting, but you could minimize them by moving the bed to the wall where the low dresser is. Replace the headboard with a tall upholstered piece, add some great softer-colored bedding. I'd paint the walls so they contrast the furniture, which would soften the room too. I'd probably do a dark accent wall where you move the bed. The TV could fit on a swivel on the tall-boy dresser. Accent rug for sure. I'd do some great light in the bedroom too - unless you can't live without the fan. If you can't, there are nicer fan choices out there too. Your bedside lamps should be much bigger/taller. You could add some nice artwork behind the bedside lamps to complete the wall. Sounds like a lot, but I don't think it would actually cost that much to redo the room.

I would try your bed as is is. I think if you could

• change the bed to the opposite wall, where the tv is
• pull your night table a bit apart from the bed.
• use the low dresser as a second night table
• get 2 lamps so that they are both at the same heigh, so one would be taller than the other (lamps to be determined after flooring)
• paint the walls in a color tbd ()flooring would affect it)
• get some very nice lamps, that bedroom would be just stunning. it is really gorgeous bed, in wood, painted, any way. and you did an outstanding job with the other pieces.
• change the carpet to a neutral carpet (light beige, ivory or grey) or wood floors. if possible. in your room the green is not horrible, but it is limiting.

The furniture is actually very pretty. If I were you I would paint it. Have you tried chalk paint before? It's relatively easy to get the hang of and can really change the look of the piece.
