Yep, you're analysis is good. The couches are too big. Assuming these are two couches? TV is going into the gap next to the fireplace? You could try one couch against the wall and the other one facing the TV, so the couches form an L-shape. But I doubt you have enough space for that. Maybe these need to find a new home. Or at least one of these.

And the curtains isn't very appealing either. What do you think? What's behind it? Door or window?

Keep the walls and curtains light. Not sure, but it looks like you don't have masses of natural light?

Test paint colours out first to see if they go with your carpet and how they look in your room. Light affects colours, so you really have to see a paint colour in your room before you know if it works or not. Easiest is to pick paint colours after you've picked curtains and furniture. Paint is easier to match to fabric than the other way around.

I'd paint the insides of niches for the TV in a darker colour to give them more depth visually and to make the TV kind of disappear against the background.

Take your curtains up higher, the same level as the bottom of the ceiling beam.
