This isn't my personal style, but I think it looks wonderful! The before is old and tired and the after is fresh and fun. Very nice, love the bright colors. I think you did an excellent job.

I do love the flooring and the dual colored cabinets; I also love the idea of a window bench but THIS one is not very practical (just try getting in and out without being jabbed by one of the sharp corners)...... It is very trendy, but what about when this style starts looking dated in a couple of years? Think ahead, don't just jump on what's hot today....

As my mother used to say, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." Let's be respective here.

P.S. The before was a photo from the listing on the house before we purchased; none of the furniture or decor is mine.

Emily, you did an amazing job with that room. It has energy, style, personality...and happy written all over it. Congratulations!:) ps. I took a trip to your blog and had a closer look - great job on the side board too!

Love the colors you chose. Great job!
I think it's great! I too have a very eclectic/colorful/sometimes whimsical/playful sense of style, and also get a fair share of commenters on my posts who sound like they think it's shameful that I don't like beige. As if bold colors are distasteful.

Houzz did a little article on one of my projects and so many people were "very seriously" opposed to it. I say keep doing what you're doing! You'll pick up tricks here and there, and let the negative nellies roll right off your back :)

I like the color you chose, it's so fresh looking and goes so well with your fabrics. I especially like that you moved the chandelier to give the room a more spacious feel and room to walk next to the table.

I'm usually not a fan of painting wood, but the former trim just looked very cheap. The white trim is light years better and getting rid of the carpet was a smart move. The wall color is not my taste and I wonder if it doesn't make the room look a bit small. But it is clearly a daring choices and one you must love, so congrats on the new room.

    Looks like a bathroom

    Looks like a fun room!

Good job as far as old dining area, just not for me, not feeling the color or the decor.

What an incredibly fun room (and I see, through the door, you've also painted your kitchen cabinets). Love the cheerful colours!

And a note to the negative commenters (on this thread and all others):

When someone posts a reveal, they are inviting you into their home. Have you ever walked into someone's house and said "Don't like what you've done here." or "Liked it better before." ?

If so, do you ever get invited back?

Wow! It never ceases to amaze me how rude people are when they hide behind a keyboard.

Very bright cheerful love the cow painting you made a great improvement! I found it interesting that if you check the pages of all the names who have been rude and have given negative comments you will find they have nothing to show for themselves not one has shown any work they have done just idea books full of other peoples ideas so they obviously lack imagination and can only criticize!

Very cheery. Fun. I like that you thought outside the box and moved the table over in order to fit a buffet. Good job!

Love everything but the mirror frame-would have used a red frame to pick up on the red in the chairs and in the cow picture. But a great job-well done!

Wonderful job, Emily! The shiplap paneling adds great visual interest.

Absolutely Awesome, makes me want to redo mine ASAP! Can't get over how much more light it looks.

Love it! It's inviting and fun! The chairs are great!

Ignore Stamps Design Services....this is fresh, youthful, and full of fun....much like you seem to be from your blog. You have a lifetime ahead to be stuffy and traditional....enjoy your space!!! Not all designers know what they are talking about....lol!

Lovely!!! Looks like the kitchen got a redo too! I love the farmhouse sink.

Such a bright space, like how you arranged things, makes the space feel larger. Great job.

I love how you brought in the bench, it made the room more spacious and less formal
  • 11 years ago

I think it's a FAB makeover. It's not me, but I love it! I don't understand why people have to be so rude . . . everyone has different taste, but that doesn't mean it's wrong. It's a happy place - GOOD JOB!!!

I love it, such a great change! Love all the color, you did a good job
  • 11 years ago

When I saw the table/chairs in the Before, I thought, "Oh, dear, how DOES one update that set?" You showed me how! Love the colors (i.e., matching color of pulls on sideboard to wall color!), shiplap paneling, and the table position. Although you note the furnishings in the Before are not yours, it looks like you acquired the table and maybe refinished it - well done!

The room now has energy! Bravo.

So surprised by the number of snarky comments that are of no help other that to reflect the poster's rudeness. Interior design is subjective and a reflection of the home owner's taste and personal history.

As for the dining room make over, I think the new design is warm and cheery...good job!

I love it...don't agree with a few of the comments. I think it is wonderful. And I love the window seat...

Great job! I noticed that nice pendant light can hang centered or closer to the window to suit the size of your dinner crowd & furniture arrangements -- smart idea.

Love the bright color! Great job on the remodel, very fun!
