Keep the decoration neutral and materials to 'medium' priced if planning to sell in the near future.

I would use a less expensive tile, but nicely done for your shower and tub, just for effect and maybe splurge on a beautiful, but neutral granite for the vanity. That will be what gets the attention of the potential buyers. Nothing too crazy looking, or too old style.

If you have a lot of new home communities around you, go look at the model homes to get current ideas. The layout of the bathroom is important too, so decide wisely what to include or not. If you have a modest home, then. Over-building the bathroom, like steam and multiple shower heads, is probably not needed.

if your home is modest potential buyers wont be looking for marble and wont be crossing yours off because it doesnt have it. if the bathroom is fresh and solid and clean, they'll be happy. no need to break the bank on this one unless its for yourself.

Thank you all for the advice. Is the white/grey scheme of marble and porcelain tiles considered neutral? Are the travertine tans/Browns still in style or is that outdated? What is the advice about making main bath and master the same tile/color selections? I was considering putting a neutral tan tile in mud room and the same in the main bath. Then doing a grey/white schem in master.
