Thought you meant that chalky-surface paint that's everywhere these days. Now I realise you mean chalkboard paint - right? I've only used it to refurbish an old chalkboard - pretty easy - it does come w/ directions. Rustoleum makes a kit, Krylon makes a tintable one & Martha Stewart has directions to make your own in custom colors...

I painted a DR wall in chalkboard paint for my kids to draw on. I used a brand from HD. It's not so smooth that the chalk comes off easily. I wipe it off w/ a dry towel and then I wet a towel and go over it to get off as much as possible. I've found that some chalk colors like red are harder to get off.

I painted a wall for my grandchildren using BM Chalkboard paint and it has provided excellent service for almost 2 years.
