When we purchased our home, we had honey oak cabinets, white on white tile counter and light oak hardwood floors. The first thing we did was change the white on white tile counters to granite. We used Tropical Brown granite and did a nice stone tile backsplash. Later, we had our hardwood floors refinished and had them stained Special Walnut (a darker brown) and most recently, we had our cabinets painted white. Each transition made a difference, the painting of the cabinets, I think made the biggest difference. What color are your walls painted? They almost look like BM Revere Pewter (which is what we have in our kitchen now).

We recently inherited my grandparents farm house. It's been in the family for six generations and has been well cared for. There are only cosmetic things that need addressed. The woodwork is all original and gorgeous curly oak.....but it's much warmer than I prefer......and then there are the cabinets. The cabinets are in great condition, but honey oak in color. What I would give to paint them white, but just can't bring myself to do so. I love the look of crisp white trim and cabinets, but my grandmother might haunt me if I paint them! Help!

Replace some of the upper cabinet doors with glass inset doors, and display something you love behind them. I would do the ones over the mixer, for a built-in-china-cabinet look. The doors over the microwave would be a good choice, too, but if there is an exhaust vent you would need frosted glass.

Personally I like a bright kitchen. I would paint the cabinets a white that you like. Counter tops would b a quartz that looked like marble. To obtain warmth I would do a cork or a wide plank rustic dark wood floors.
