You have two focal points. The fireplace and the tv. I would mount the tv on the wall above the fireplace first. Then place the couch opposites the fireplace floating in the room.

Agreed. TV above the mantel, couch horizontally from the tv. Maybe a sofa table behind it and the chair at a 90* angle on either side. This frees up the area where the tv is for anything. It would be a great place for a home computer/work area.

We definitely thought about putting the tv above the fireplace but the fireplace is really tall. Not a lot of space for the size tv we have.

We can revisit that idea for sure and maybe get a smaller tv. Thanks for the ideas

Why are you moving or removing the rug? The table to the right of your chair is too tall.

if the TV n tv stand can fit up against the angled wall next to the hallway that would work. I would then place a long couch against the window wall n a left sided sectional against the wall where the TV was. a large coffee table. a fabric bench opposite the sectional. a great big art piece over sectional. if this works major seating for movie night n game day.

How about a smaller shower surround for your fireplace. It looks a bit out of scale for the firebox and the room in general. Then you fireplace would likely fit. As for the TV being too high they make swivel mount so the TV can be angled down as needed. Frankly I don't feel like it would be too high when sitting in a comfy chair. Now if you're in a straight backed chair it would be very uncomfortable. :)

We recently moved into this house and this was the living room set in our last house. The rug is too small for this size room. Pics don't show size of entire room. It's very long. We may use this furniture in a other room or pieces of it. We are also looking to re-do the fireplace as well. We hate the black granite. Any ideas for that?

I would keep the TV where you have it but angle the furniture grouping and rug so they are perpendicular to the fireplace. I think that would still be fine for TV viewing and it would make the fireplace the one focal point.

I was going to say the above what Ann said. Plus move chair that is blocking fp, to the rug.

This space is a challenge because of the angles - but it is also an interesting area.

The TV wall: Add bookcases to each side of your TV cabinet. Then, to make the grouping more cohesive, turn the rug 90 deg. so that the longest edge of it is parallel with the TV cabinet/bookcases. Place the sofa along this shorter end with another [new] sofa opposite the current sofa. Front feet up on the rug. Add a large coctail table and end table[s]. A pair of fun cubes could be placed at the end of the cocktail between the FP and TV as part of this setting. They would be low enough to keep the view of the fire in the FP open. Now, we understand that this part of the room is for viewing TV - it's a group.

Or a small armless chair with a low back could be added to this group opposite the TV, at the end of the sofa that is in front of the windows.

Console table behind the "new" sofa would finish off the back of this sofa. Maybe you could work in the trio of pots you have by the windows?

The fireplace and mantle need to be edited so that it stands on its own but is connected visually with the TV group. You can achieve this through artwork [not a mirror] and carefully chosen accessories on the mantle and hearth . It would be great to keep the sight line from the TV setting open to the fireplace.

The angled wall could be worked into a sitting/reading area by organizing 2 arm chairs in a patterned upholstery and a table. Hang a pair of art pieces on each wall, over the chairs. A great lamp on the table, books, pots,, etc., and maybe a large plant or narrow tree in a beautiful pot. The scale of the pieces on this wall needs to match the scale of the pieces on the other 2 walls [FP & TV].

The leather chair 1/2 and ottoman might work on the angled wall also. Have you tried them over there? Would it be possible to put the chair and ottoman on that wall but play with the placement of them to keep traffic lanes open.

Everything color-wise as well as stylistically, depends upon which rug you end up with.

The small barrel chair would be on hold for the moment!

Or do this with only one sofa.
