DONT DO IT !!!!!! covers it very well. Actually, I really like the dramatic look of this plant. And in a completely separate planter, with very deep sides or a pot on concrete so it cannot escape from the drainage hole, maybe... But I have heard of people claim it went under sidewalks with ease. And once established, you may as well consider it impossible to eradicate. It laughs at RoundUp, your shovel, and your fury. All it takes is a bit taken during landscape maintenance dropped in another part of your yard, and there it goes. Forever. Yeah, I'm back to DONT DO IT !!!!!!

Dig it up asap and burn it. It will grow up through tarmac, concrete, anything. If you leave it you will regret it for ever. Horsetail

Seems to me that this is one of the plants that the dinosaurs chowed down on. I had it in a garden - now in my Zone, not AS aggressive but still took years to get rid of and not all that attractive, imho. It was shorted that the link Floral posted, though.
