I have seen three foot but do not remember seeing two foot. I checked a couple of the places that we have used for mulch in the past and they do not list it. Is it possible that they cut a four foot roll in half? From the looks of the forecast your not going to need any mulch for a while anyway. At least the snow is almost gone.

Thanks, Tom. I've checked just about every place I could think of and not just ag suppliers. Surely someone makes it as I have a roll. I'm positive it wasn't cut in half, but I have considered that as an option if I want to continue to use film that size. I absolutely loved it for my sweet potatoes last year and for single rows.

You are dead on about how wet it is. I've gotten my truck stuck 3 times already this spring just trying to get around--twice on my road even after I added a semi load of rock to it while it was frozen. My fields don't drain the best as it is. To make matters worse, we have all the construction mess of the building, the septic system, and lots of electrical and water trenching all around the farm. It'll be a slippery spring until I get grass growing. At least we are finally out of the deep freeze.

Wish we had some of your moisture. All early season crops ground all tilled and ready to plant. Never found two foot plastic either. The idea of cutting 4 foot in half came to mind too

That's Illinois for you - cold season, mud season, one week of nice weather, hot season, another week of nice weather then cold season again. I hear you on the mud, Brook - I can hardly put the hounds out because they sink to their bellys. Another couple of days like the last couple the frost will be out so maybe it will get better. Septic going in - when you starting the house??

The only thing I would worry about cutting a roll is how to do it without getting the plastic warm enough to fuze the ends together. Tried that with shrinkwrap once and it was a disaster. Almost would have to be some type of guillotine cutter as a sawzall would create too much friction. Going to have to put my thinking cap on for that one.

We're expected to get between 1.5 and 3 inches today and tonite. So far, it's just drizzled. No matter what, I have to get a lot of work done w/my perennials and trees. Tom, there is no house, just a building. Since our farm is so far away and we both are down there endlessly, we put in some living quarters w/as many amenities as we could afford--like a shower and toilet. Around here, we call these buildings "shouses." The wife was tired of the woods--especially in winter lol. I'm dying to retire in about three years to focus even more on our property, and having this place will make things sooooo much better. We're high society now w/running water, electricity, and indoor plumbin'--not to mention an indoors.

I've also been considering what to cut a larger roll down with, and it would have to be something really sharp. Power tools are definitely out.

Thanks, JR. I'll look into that. The roll I had was a partial roll, but I'm guessing it originally contained 4,000 ft. I've heard KS has been pretty warm and dry of late; but, like it is in IL, I'm sure you're used to crazy swings also. Regardless, I've got 12k onions and a case of leeks coming in a couple weeks. We'll see.

You can easily cut a 4' roll in half with a chainsaw. I got a good deal on a pallet of 5' rolls a few years ago and now I have a few 1' rolls for which I have no use. Advise given to me is to start with a sharp chainsaw chain. Cut straight through the roll in one motion. The edge is just a little rough.
