Professional range hood???

We are currently building and I am having trouble deciding on a range or vent hood to go over a 36 inch professional range. It has a grill on it and I really want something that is powerful. It needs to vent through the ceiling. Does anyone have suggestions for me? Thanks so much!

Need more info. Total btu of stove? I believe it's the internal blower that makes the difference. You need one to handle your stove's total btus

I bought a Kobe 42" chimney style hood based on recommendations here. It is very nicely made and very powerful. The company is awesome to deal with, but DO NOT buy through AJ Madison under ANY circumstances. :) https://www.thenaturalhome.com/ra02.htm

Yes, tell us which range it is, or tell us the btus of the burners. The ballpark calculation is 100 cfms per 1000 btus. So if your total of your btus is 72,000, you'd need 720 cfms. This number can of course go up or down depending on your cooking style. If you wok-cook, or use the grill a lot, you want to stay on the high side of the calculation. If you don't cook much, or don't fry or grill, then you'd be fine with 600 cfms even if your total is 72,000.

Since you are building your home, make sure you get the right size duct to go from your hood to outside. If the duct is too small, and you have that powerful hood you want, your hood will have increased noise and decreased deficiency through no fault of the hood. Typically, exhaust hoods need a duct that is 8" or 10" in diameter. The hood you choose will specify which. Don't let your builder tell you "6 inch diameter duct is fine". Get the right sized duct.

Modern-Aire and Prizer are the two I came down to as finalists in my search a couple years ago. I chose Prizer, but you can't go wrong with either....over my Bluestar 36RNB

Make up air also has to be budgeted for, and engineered for. This makes the hood requirements cost almost as much as the range.

Also, if this is a true commercial range and not a prosumer one, it doesn't belong in the home. It will require a commercial vent with fire supression system, to not touch any walls or cabinets, and be actually approved by your insrurance company by name nd possibly rider, as it won't be listed for residential use.
