Help! I need some pointers on how to brighten up the exterior or just add curb appeal. This is an updated post with more pictures. Thanks!

depending on what your budget is......I would paint the brick and porch all the same (lighter neutral) color. then the cedar shakes another slighter grayed or muted tone (not sure if the whole house is ...I can't really tell from the picture). the front door could be a bright contrasting color ....pick your favorite. I would remove the shrubs and put a rounded garden bed in the corner by the stairs and continue the bed around the porch. anchor the bed with small evergreen shrubs and low maintenance perennials for color.

landscaping skirting the home, trees in the yard. Do your research and don't underestimate what landscaping can do to completely transform your home's appearance.

Your home has really nice features.

It may be an easy task to just paint the spindles, posts and railings to white to match the window frames. The shake siding also could be painted white or other distinguishing color to get you the desired results.

Patience with the plantings. Spring is just around the corner.

    Best wishes.

plants plants plants! All around the sides. Herringbone pattern driveway stones, paint light colors to brighten the place up. whitewash the brick. Bright colored front door.. Make it a little bit funky :)

Paint the railing white around the deck. Paint the front door. Paint the siding to blend or complement the existing colors. I really think painting the front porch will have a big impact.

    Because the brick
appears to be in the “color range” of the roof, I would leave it as and paint
the siding a color such as Benjamin Moore
“Ashley Gray” (because I don’t know how accurately your brick color is
being shown here, this is merely a reference to the value & intensity of a
color). Paint the porch posts & railing this same color with the window
frames (white really is not right here) painted the same color but about a
third darker. The front door can be popped with a color such as Benjamin Moore “Georgian Brick” or “Gloucester
    Sage”.

    Add “non-hedge”
plants along the concrete base to disguise that area but not add another
horizontal band. I don’t know your geographic area, but if you are in Texas (or
a similar climate) I would suggest adding 2-3 crepe myrtles forward of the bend
in the sidewalk (shown in lower photograph) to add some depth to your yard.
These trees have a nice full top canopy yet are more open with their branches
    than a single trunk tree.
