I agree about considering functionality. If children are involved I would go with granite which can withhold more mishaps and look good! I love white marble because it is truly chic, reminds me of italy and is timeless. My mother still rolls pastry with a marble roller and on a marble slab. Love both. Have fun!

I have granite in kitchen and marble in master bath. Marble has to be sealed or it stains.

How about neither. Quartz is an oft chosen contemporary option that is a nice alternative to granite, especially if you are looking for something in a calmer color range. It can be used in bathrooms and kitchens and is considered to be easily as durable as granite. We are definitely using more of this and other similar alternatives in our current projects.

Granite holds up a lot better than marble.

I compiled some articles below on countertops a couple years back for my clients. I would agree with the above comments on quartz. We also do a fair amount of concrete countertops as well. I personally have them at home and love them. Here is the picture of my concrete coffee table that is suppose to be pictured in the post.
