Steve this is really inspiring do you thin heavily or prick out when it's time to pot up?

I love the organization and it looks so much simpler than fussing with cell packs.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm in there wielding the handle of my plastic spoon ... okay, DW has to handle those tiny snapdragons. The digits have their limitations.

The snapdragons, peppers and such will go in 4-packs or 6-packs. The tomatoes are barely getting started but will go that route and most of the tomatoes will be in 3 1/2" pots before the move to their part of the garden.

The onions may require some thinning to hold out long enough in their flats but maybe not this year. We'll see how April weather looks. Onions are the first of the seedlings to go out into the open garden.

Steve, your onions are well ahead of mine. But our weather has turned so warm I can keep mine outside all night now. One trick I may have mentioned before. My onion trays look about as packed as your onion trays. I found taking a whole wad of onion and potting soil, then gently swirling it around by hand in a bucket of water cleans off the dirt, then the wet roots slip apart very easily, intact. Then I wrap them in wet paper until I plant them.

This year I direct seeded most of my onions in the tunnels sometime around Christmas. They started coming up a few weeks ago. Hopefully when the time comes I'll be able to gently dig them up and properly space them. I do have some started indoors in the south window as well.

That cleaning before planting sounds like a good idea, David. One thing I can't and don't try to do is save any soil that clings to the onion roots. Washing rather than shaking, eh?

The tomato seedlings, etc. went out for a daytime greenhouse visit, today!

Those are the peppers to the left. It's about time to go out to bring them in for the night. There are more tomato seeds just now popping up in the kitchen! I'll have those containers uncovered and in the South Window tomorrow.

Very, very soon - the furnace in the greenhouse will have to be turned on in the mornings. The South Window will not accommodate all the plants. The next step will be from fatigue and I won't be bringing them back in the house at night. Sure hope that the furnace will be able to fire up and do its job ...

Edit: the tomatoes are a little leggy from having emerged just as we went through several days of clouds and rain. It might be true for the next batch but rain only on Saturday is all the WS is saying right now.

My onions are doing great, the peppers -- sans one sweet variety that is a no-show for the second year running, are going well. Still pondering the tomato list -- always the agonizing part for me. Petunias are pokey but it is still early.
