Love slate appliances but no gas cooktop!

Hi all! My husband and I just purchased a fixer upper so we need to do a complete kitchen remodel. We love the look of slate appliances and I had my heart set on a gas cooktop like the one in the pic below but GE doesn't seem to make this in slate, as far as I can tell anyway.

I suppose an option would be to get a gas range with the nobs on top rather than on the front. Then no one would really see the finish anyway.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? I really like the way it looks with the metal hanging over the edge, but it looks like I might have to just let that go.

Thanks for any advice!

Don't Scarface your dream kitchen. Expand the search to other companies for slate appliances. If that doesn't work I suggest you sacrifice the gas cook top over the color slate because other cook tops are very energy efficient and safer for family's.

I've been researching the Slate colored appliances, and right now only GE makes them. Apparently they are continually expanding the line, but they are somewhat slow bringing out new pieces. I want an induction range in my new kitchen, but they don't offer one yet.

Slate will never come in a range top, which is what is pictured, not a cooktop. That's a super high end choice, not consumer grade. Slate is limited to the lower end GE products, and Electrolux/Frigidaire will probably discontinue them after the merger.

Si, better to streamline the Juarez production lines....

I'm in your same exact boat! The salesman at Lowes told me that all the other lines are coming out with the slate soon because it has been so popular for GE. But that doesn't help me right now with the gas cooktop I'm craving. What did you end up doing?

I looked at the option of just getting a separate induction cooktop and a wall oven in Slate, couldn't justify the extra cost at the price point for my house. I ended up buying a glass top electric range in Slate. Did my whole kitchen in Slate, with medium tone cherry cabinets. Just finished last week! I was looking at the double oven range but once I realized the bigger oven is at floor level, I knew I didn't want to have to lift a heavy turkey off the floor! Ended up getting the microwave / convection oven combination in Slate as well, and worked liked a charm for Thanksgiving, one of the few times I could use more than one oven. So far very happy with everything.

The Lowes sales drone is mistaken. Whirlpool/Maytag/Amana/Jennair/Inglis isn't going to introduce a competitor color. Especially since it is less than 1% of all appliances purchased. Despite the attempt of Electrolux/Frigidaire to finish the transaction to buy GE, they aren't going to introduce anything non standard either. At least not until the lawyers figure out that tangled mess.

Because the GE Slate Appliances have stainless steel handles, why not purchase a stainless gas cooktop and downdraft from another manufacturer? I did.

You just got all slate appliances and did the stainless cook top?? Can I see a picture. I'm considering doing that! Do you love them still?

I still love them! And since then my cleaning lady told me she was thinking about letting go of one of her stainless steel customers because their stainless is extremely difficult to clean. So glad I went Slate Appliances! The Whirlpool Microwave however has had to have its closing latch replaced because it didn't tell the oven it was closed therefore it wouldn't work. Thank goodness it happened during the one year warranty, I didn't have a choice with that appliance because it is installed up against a wall and need a zero radius hinge. I will try to send a photo of the appliances the Gestate goes wonderfully with the Whirlpool Microwave Oven and the Dacor cooktop. LOVE the Dacor Stainless Cooktop - cleans very easily.

Just ordered GE Profile fridge, double oven, microwave, and dishwasher. Anxious to get a warming drawer and gas cooktop in slate!

Also, this is the closest color to a gorgeous bronze kitchen appliance line that was nixed due to the recession in 2004. Bronze was presented at a trade show and I was it at Expo. Took my breath away. I am sick of white, off white and stainless and would rather retrieve my black appliances than go white or stainless! Lol

We are ordering GE profile in slate for a new condo: fridge, dishwasher, wall oven/convection microwave, and hood over the cooktop. GE offers black or stainless gas cooktops, i.e. no slate. I guess we are going with the stainless as black shows every speck and drip. As someone else pointed out, the fridge handles are stainless, and we will have a stainless sink.

Looking at slate myself for the kitchen, and I too can only find a slate cooktop in a glass version. I want gas, so I'm going to have to settle for stainless. I have all black appliances right now that aren't super old, but I'm telling you, I've never had to work so hard to keep anything clean as I do these black appliances. Never again! I'm curious on opinions with this slate in a more rustic kitchen. I don't have a modern taste, more of a rustic farmhouse sort of taste, and warm colors in rust, gold, brown, cream and black. Am I setting myself up for trouble with this slate color in that it's just a trend that's going to come and go? If your opinion is yes, would you stay with black appliances then?

I love my slate appliances and I think that slate would look good in any style. To me, it's warmer than stainless and it's easy to clean. I was able to easily find a composite sink that looks pretty close to the slate color. I knew that I didn't want stainless - looks too industrial to me, I've had black, loved it, but tired of it. White appliances do nothing for me. Slate turned out to be a great choice for me. I think that everything comes in trends but that doesn't have dictate YOUR style. I'm going to try to upload some photos of my kitchen now that everything is in except for the cooktop which isn't available in slate yet. Oh, and I want to add that our last dishwasher was a Kitchen Aid and it was pretty darn quiet but this new GE dishwasher in slate is even quieter which surprised me a LOT. I have to really listen hard to hear it.

There are some photos here on Houzz of a white kitchen with Slate appliances, using slate tiles for the backsplash - it's gorgeous and would work well in a rustic styled kitchen. Look for Interior Passions Kitchen & Bath Design.

I love the slate appliances from GE. I've been a GE fan for years. Looks like there is still no slate option for the gas cooktop! Doesn't make sense that they have not come out with one, when they have the option in ranges
