the sectional is new. its my wifes choice. it didnt look so big in the furniture store. now we are stuck with it. we are constructing a pool outside tats the reason the sofa is facing the window.

we can live without a fireplace.

That arrangement is much better, but you shouldn't just shove the chair into the corner!! Are you keeping the red drapes?? The pillows on the sofa need color and some pattern. Your ideabook is filled with light furniture, but you purchased a really dark sofa? Do you want a brown/red/cream color scheme?

Not a fan of the new arrangement. I think the sectional would look best against the wall like Cheri suggested earlier. The chase can go against the window and place the chair to the left of the sectional. With this arrangement, it will be easier to decorate the wall with artwork/mirror.

Are those drapes on the window going to stay or can you change them? Do you have any color schemes in mind? If you can change the curtains, then I would do a neutral rug and add pops of color with orange and aqua colored throw pillows, get artwork in those same colors and perhaps aqua colored curtains. Will give a fun, bright vibe to the room.

Here's the color scheme I have in mind. Dark couch with pops of orange and aqua.

The current arrangement allows for a fireplace installation and/or tv should it be wished for eventually. What is clear is that the original arrangement didn't work at all. The present arrangement creates definition along the back of the sofa.

I am assuming the sofa is brown although it looks grey in some pictures.

What color palette is your favorite as your pictures in ideabook are mostly light neutrals.

I think he said no fp Ramona. I was wondering if he put the couch back where it was but move it in closer towards the window. Move the big chair opposite where it is. If he pulls the couch away from the wall he could add a sofa table behind the couch. I am no designer so just throwing it out. M

Ramona, in the current arrangement, it looks like to me that the sectional is floating in the middle of the room. Also, if you look at the second picture posted originally, there is an entrance door. The sides of the sectional is what someone would see as soon as they walk in the door.

Ramona/ pracheeti : We plan to keep the red drapes. Red or cream color scheme would do. I will also add some green plants . No more browns/blacks.
We really wanted a cream color sectional but Our wall color is cream, and we have a 2 year old daughter ,so to avoid food stains we compromised and opted for a dark brown sectional. Got it ,oval or rectangular coffee table.

Pracheeti: If we place the sectional against the wall the arm of the chaise covers 1/3 of the window. We don't want that.

floating the sectional in the middle of the room is precisely want you want to do. take a look at how most sectionals are positioned in houzz photos. The sofa pillows also need to be varied in lots of interesting ways. Because they are too dark and stark against cream pillows. They look flat.

Your walls are a bit empty, what I'd suggest is that you add some portraits of varying sizes to your walls, the portrait depends on you, only you should stick to one type of portrait. You could either get: artworks, typographies or even family photos for a personal feel. Also, a coffee table and a nice rug would help.

and the pillows should have lots of texture. You can order the size you need on Esty and use your existing pillow inserts, or if someone sews, you can do the same thing much more inexpensively.

Most of the pillow makers will allow you to request different sizes, so you should choose some that are the same size as the pillow which came with the sofa and some which are different

I like the sectional floating in the room, but feel it really makes the room feel smaller. If you flipped the sectional onto the long wall in the exact same position you have now, the arm of the sectional would not be in front of the window. The chair would then me moved across the room. Rectangular or square cocktail table would be best.

A variety of pillows in texture and size are a must, as the red draperies are staying. A light colored large rug is a must. Art work could be a large collection of assorted pieces from framed to photos or a large triptych (set of 3) of a series might be nice too.

How about going back to your first arrangement except that the chaise part does not touch the wall and the sectional is centered
in the space? It would be a floating arrangement facing the future pool.

I think a lighter rug will liven up the room and use the red on the pillows. Rugs USA had a 70% sale on the one I posted a couple of days ago and the same style was reposted above.

How about just cream? I think you are better off with a simpler rug and a cleaner contemporary look with the busy curtains.

And you need a sleeker coffee table than the one in the picture.

A plain rug for sure because of your draperies, I like the second or fifth rug you posted. I think an iron/glass cocktail table or wood with a glass top would be better options.

For a young toddler, an ottoman in faux leather with no hard edges is a practical choice. Like both ottoman and rug in this room.

Right now the sofa is facing a large blank wall. I know you want to focus on the window but I would still flip the couch to the blank wall and then angle the chair across from it facing the window. Otherwise, you may want something more like a tv and other things on the large wall. It will be much nicer to actually communicate with people when they are in the kitchen that way and you can lie in the corner of the couch and look out the window that way. You could then put a TV over the table you have next to the kitchen opening.

This is how it would look. i dont know what to do with the space between the chaise and the window. also the chaise arm covers some part of the window. it would have actually worked if the chaise was on the left side of the sofa facing the window.

Like the couch on the wall but move it closer to the, the empty space is off. The pillows on you couch don't look like accent pillows but appear to be the back cushions of the couch. If they are not part of the couch they are way to big to be accents. If they are the back of the couch they should all be the same brown color, the cream is just off. Then you can add just a few red accent pillows as others have shown. Cream rug with red and green is good.
Drapes..... Move the solid red panels to the outside of the window. If they are sewn in, rip out the seams and resew, the red will then frame the window.
Place the chair at the other side of the window. Remove all but one brown pillow and one small red lumbar pillow.
Glass top coffee table would be best. You need no more brown and the rug will show through.
Place two small wood framed,open arm chains facing the window. Maybe painted cream with seat and back cushions in a cream, brown and red strip or plaid, any simple pattern. You have a large pattern in the rug, medium in drapes,other patterns should be different scale. Small console or sofa table behind chairs, with lamp. Large painting behind couch .
