Hi! Thanks for responding. I live in hawaii, zone.. 11 I think. I also live toward the back of a valley and it is pretty humid year round. The plant was outside, but after something... Maybe grasshoppers ate the buds of one of my other phals, I brought it inside a couple of weeks ago.

I generally water the plants around every 5 days or so, but sometimes a little less/more frequently. The pot has several drainage holes (normal plastic pot).

Before when it was outside, it was mostly in the shade with partial sun late afternoon. It had a brief stint of too much sun after I moved it and got sunburned so I moved it back to its original spot (and then brought it inside a week later). Inside, temps are... Maybe between 70 and 80. It sits in a room with skylights and windows that get afternoon sun. Sometimes the (slightly tinted) window is "closed" and light is very filtered. Other times it is "open" (screened) and gets a little more light.

I have 5 phals growing on the same table right now and I generally water them all at the same time.

They also get foliar sprayed with a 13-13-2 local orchid fertilizer every week or two weeks if I am very busy.

In the picture, the part at the base of the crown that is brownish is a bit squishy :(

Also, at first, the part in the first picture that is brown/whiteish, it started as just whiter than usual/that sorta bleached look in the pictire maybe two weeks ago and I thought maybe that was just part of the getting sunburned thing. So I've been watching it and it's brown and white today. On Sunday (last time I watered it) it was only whitish/bleached, not brown

Is that the side that got sunburned? It sort of looks like the effects of a sunburn to me as it will turn brown after a while.

Bob, I was thinking the same thing after she explained that it was white bleached then turned brown . Night star, I would watch it carefully and if the spot gets mushy use a sharp razor ( watch your finger ) and carefully remove it then dust a bit of powdered cinnamon on the spot this will stop the wound getting infected and dry the spot.
