I am in Zone 7 also, but in TN.. are they in pots right now or just bare root? If your area is finished with the heavy freezing, I would go ahead and plant now. Don't expect bloom this spring..irises are tough and they should survive. If they are in pots I would leave them until this summer/fall..In pots they will still bloom..

I only have 2 planted in pots - all the others are bare-root, and many more are on their way to me. Unfortunately, it is snowing here today in New Jersey - the Iris bed is not yet prepared, so either way, I have to wait to plant them all - TB's, versicolor, virginica, and Louisiana's are all en route to me.

I would probably get the bare rooted ones in pots if possible, that way new roots would start to form and then when you are able to get them in the ground they will have a jump start on growth.. and hopefully the others that are on their way will hold off until you can work the ground and get their bed ready.. Since you are getting snow on the 1st day of Spring, I wont share my weather with you, even though its cloudy and damp, its better than snow..We have had our share of that also..

This is so typical of New Jersey weather in March. We have had some of our worst snow storms/blizzards in March. So I'm not surprised we are having snow today. Many of the rhizomes will come this week, but many will also not be shipped to me until Mid-July (when Beardeds are supposed to be planted). I have ordered a total of 25 Iris rhizomes. So I am going to have quite a bit of work to do, but I'm so looking forward to it. I love Iris and can't wait to have a yard full of blooms.

I'm so envious. I can't imagine having so many Irises in your garden. How wonderful for you.

I look out the window, and all I see is SNOW. I'm so bummed out right now about this. I have all these Irise rhizomes coming in the mail, and can't plant them. I haven't prepared the Iris bed for them yet. I have to get to Home Depot tomorrow for more Garden soil, bone meal, and a garden rake.

I have a Louisiana iris rhizome sitting in a pot of water right now. This is ridiculous!
