Every variety is different. There are some roses that won't even set hips at all. Others are only good as pollen parent or seed parent but not both. It just depends. It might also be because the hip didn't ripen long enough and the seeds inside weren't quite mature. Some seed may have a thicker seed coat or there may be something inhibiting germination. There are a lot of variables involved. I have had seeds that didn't germinate for me until the second or third year that I had them. Sounds like you're doing pretty well with the ones you have already so just be patient.

Thanks for the reply. I was so surprised by such a large difference in number of sprouts. I don't think I have ever had that many from one rose. Maybe in past years I have had as many as a dozen. Usually only 2 to 6.

I've been waiting for my little seedlings to come up for weeks! They really take a long time. But I just noticed today that one of the LADY X babies popped up! Gives me hope that the rest will come! I only did seeds from 4 different roses.

I just checked my seed tray. I now have 5 LADY X seedlings and a second BARONNE EDMOND DE ROTHSCHILD one has just popped up. The CA DREAMIN' and OPHELIA ones aren't doing anything. Bummer. I wonder if they ever will pop anything out. I know they were all viable ones that I planted. Ya just never know I guess.
