Auntlodi - as far as tips, I don't think you can mess it up. This garlic was here when we moved in, and has been mowed over, chopped down, dug up, and suffered just about every indignity a plant can and is still going strong. I haven't even really ever harvested it, since it was outside my regular garden plot for so long (DH just moved some into the proper garden last weekend). It has beautiful allium flower heads on it if not harvested, so I've enjoyed it for that reason, too.

Paula, I didn't get a map either. I think maybe I can find it tho.....blindfolded probably. LOL

Dawn, I would like an artichoke and comfrey if you have enough. I have seeds but didn't stratify them, so could use a few plants until I get my ducks in a row. LOL

Carol, I'll pull those plants for you, put them in a bag, and have them sitting on the arranged trades table. I'm doing the same with some Poblano, Jalapeno, Comfrey, Catnip and Heidi tomato plants promised to folks earlier in this thread. I need to go back and make myself a list of what plants I promised to which persons so I can pull them all and have them ready. The weather is going to be rainy, and potentially severe, here today and I still need to dig and pot up some herbs and flowers so I may find myself running in and out to avoid rain showers. It is fun to have spring weather than feels like spring instead of summer, but daily rain showers make it hard to spend enough time out in the garden.

Hi Dawn. I can help with part of that list! Mosquetero please! And I will try to bring extra pots size 1 gallon and smaller and maybe some snacks and soda if I can make it to the store. Maybe fresh eggs for the giveaway table if I can find some. It is like an easter egg hunt every day around here.

Scott and Krista, Your plants will be on the table for pre-arranged plants, and that includes catnip for Krista. You two were already on my list because we'd previously discussed the Mosquetero peppers, catnip and the Heidi tomatoes and I had not forgotten my commitments. I never forget someone who is really to adopt my extra plants because I do want for all of them to go to good homes where they can be fruitful.

Krista, The Heidi tomatoes are very small because they were started late and haven't had much warmth or sun (it is raining right now, and that's the story of their lives), but they will get big quick and will produce all summer. Heat doesn't shut them down until the high temps are exceeding 100 every single day. Last year they produced all summer long. I mean they are VERY small. They are healthy though.

Paula, The forecast for Saturday is such a good one. Yay! I cannot believe we aren't going to be running to the porch to get out of the rain. I'm so looking forward to seeing everyone. It seems like every time we go to your place for the Spring Fling, we are fleeing thunderstorms as we leave for home, so it will be unusual to drive home in nice weather after the Spring Fling ends.

We have rain in the forecast all day and at least part of the night. If this keeps up, Tim and Chris may have to start building an ark, while I start collecting pairs of animals to load onto it.

I'm so excited I get to come this year. Bringing a friend from work. I told her about gardenweb.com (different name, same wonderful people). She's a gardener and a fisherwoman. I'm bringing my pasta salad and plants!

When the fling was in Tulsa I decided to visit my family .

I got several tiny bags from the fling with seeds and went threw drumbright instead of the truck root got pulled over and they checked every bag

Like we were drug dealers. I know we look rough but damn.

In between rain showers, I got my flowers and herbs together and these are the ones (from memory) that we are bringing, in addition to the previously mentioned comfrey and catnip.

Herbs: dill, chamomile, fennel, bronze fennel and basil.

Flowers: zinnias (mixed colors, volunteers), tall verbena (Verbena bonariensis), Laura Bush petunias (volunteers, should flower in either purple or pink), moss rose and four o'clocks (mixed colors, most likely pink or fuschia). Whew! It doesn't sound like a lot, but added to the veggies, it is going to be a whole truckload of plants. I hope we can make them all fit into the truck.

If you made a request anywhere in this thread, I jotted them all down and have a list of items to pull and bag up tomorrow morning as we load the truck so I can put them on the pre-arranged trade table. I thought I'd do that pulling and bagging this afternoon or evening, but it poured cats and dogs, so I didn't get that done.

I'm bringing surprises for everyone tomorrow. I love a good surprise.

Sorry to hear that, Tree. Sounds about right for the locals. They don't mind illegal searches. Local police officer in Cushing was recently found dead at his home. No word on what killed him. I'm assuming suicide. Had 2 daughters.

Yep I agree. Thank You Ken and Paula. I guess I did not meet everyone but was glad to meet the few I did. I just got to visiting and time flew by. My wife and I were supposed to have a date and I got home to late for what we had planned! Oh well, we turned our date into planting plants and doing container gardens.

Tree-I got pulled over many moons ago and searched for drugs, because the cop saw a beer lid in the back of my truck. When I asked why, he would not answer and called in other cops to watch me while he destroyed my cab. ONLY after he never found anything did he tell me why he searched my pickup. Oh and did I mention they left the truck in a MESS and it was MY PROBLEM!!? Another time I had a small party in the woods. A couple got pulled over at the end of the drive. He was driving and sober. She had been drinking. The cop searched the vehicle. his wallet, and her purse. He then threw out their trash and littered on my property, then got flustered because everything was right and correct and had HER drive home after she had been drinking. This particular officer has had several other questionable incidents around our county with other folks we know. Sometimes...

We also had a great time. Hate that we had to leave early, but we have an uncle in the hospital and needed to take care of some family stuff.

Thanks again to our lovely host and hostess. Al and I both had a great time and brought home some good stuff. We arrived home tired so none of mine got planted today.

I was about 50 miles away from Paula and Ken's place heading home but my heart and head were still at the party. Words just cannot connect how awesome ya'll are and how much fun it was. I'm so grateful for all the goodies and food and the warm hearts and kind graces from all.

Beautiful people from all walks of life. Today was real 'living'. I hope everyone who didn't make it will be able to round up next year!

You ALL are too kind and ALSO TOO GENEROUS! OMG! You all paid for this year's meat offering, porta-potty and half of next years!!! All we do is put a few tables out, send a few maps (ok, I make it sound easier than it is but really!!! After this many years I can do it with my eyes closed!!!!) I'm may be a little absent for a week or so because I've gotta take care of medical/health issues but I just want each of you to know that I absolutely loved our time and appreciate each of you so very, very much. Nothing nourishes my soul like my garden family. Nothing.

Late chiming in with my heartfelt thanks for another wonderful Fling! The hosts, the company, the food - all were so very much appreciated. Moni, thanks for baby-wrangling so I could have lunch! And Paula and Ken, lovely and gracious hosts as ever, and Tim and Dawn were perfect Vanna Whites for the door prizes, and it was so great to see and visit everyone else!

Daddy took the baby in the afternoon and let Mama play in the dirt. I got 20(!!) tomato plants into the ground and am so grateful to all the gardeners who took their time and talent to start those seedlings. Saved my garden bacon again! I am SORE but so happy. Today's naptime job is to get the hoses out and get my infrastructure up to try the Florida weave this year. Cannot wait to see how the garden grows and again, I'm so grateful to have such wonderful friends with green thumbs and big hearts.

I wanted to express my thanks to everyone at the Spring Fling yesterday. Although I rarely post anything, Daryl and I were greeted warmly by everyone and made so welcome! He's a quiet (unlike me) guy, but he observes and listens well (maybe because he's a counselor) and had a great time, too. Paula, special thanks to you for all the time and your warm hospitality. It was so nice to be there and meet you all, and the spirit of gardening friendship was very evident!

I got everything in the ground except for one tomato, a Black Cherry. To get that one in, I was going to have to stop and get the other raised bed ready to plant. No time left today. Again, thank you all! I truly enjoyed putting faces to names. It will take another couple of Flings for me to remember, though!

Finally got home and online! I am so thankful to have met such a great group by accidentally finding the GW Oklahoma corner.

I had the best time as Paula and Ken could tell I was the last to leave. I cant thank them enough or
express my appreciation to Moni as deeply as I feel it. I learn so much from y'all I wouldn't even have a garden if it wasn't for all of you.

I came home with a load of plants for the school Thank you Karo! Some of them are going to an older person who needs something to do.
I am so tickled with all my new treasures/ babies. I will have to wait until Tues or Wed to plant it is raining!!! I also came home with extra blackberries yes yes I did stop at the sale and bought all they had left, they were 1/2 price.
Paula if I would have stayed to dig plum trees I would have ended up back at Monis for another night! It was perfect timing I got to Denton just in time to take mother to dinner.

It's a little after nine this evening in my little slice of Heaven. IT'S RAINING! Just in time to water all the garlic, seedless blackberry, Echinacea, bee balm, Orange Daylillies, iris, comfrey, paperwhites, ornamental peppers and lambs ear along with freshly sown seeds of Caserta Zuch, yellow straigtneck, dark star zuch, radishes of French Breakfast and Cherry Bell along with a vast assortment of lettuce and spinach in my "greens" table! Still have to plant a few maters, peppers and cardinal vine but they're watered and tucked under the back patio cover until I can get to them next weekend (I'm being quite the Optimist, huh?),

As long as you guys keep leaving all these wonderful leftovers, we'll be hard-pressed to find a reason to quit hosting! (I'm also the lucky one that got the leftover Turkey Pastrami from okoutdoorsman!) Oh wait.....that's part of the enabling. Sheesh....I thought I'd been here long enough to be immune.....

Hey Y'all,

I just heard from Stephanie a few minutes ago. Paula is out of surgery, it all went really well and she's doing great. Because I know that you all love our Earth Sister as much as I do, I wanted to let y'all know this important information. I really wanted to put it on its own thread as a stand-alone post, but thought that putting it here would preserve her privacy a little better while still letting everyone who knew about the surgery have the peace of mind of knowing she is doing well. She'll remain in the hospital for a few days, but the news is as good as could be expected. I hope this means that by summer, she'll be eating all the fresh veggies she loves from her garden.
