Love my new furniture but don't know where to go from here. Bookcases? Also, thought maybe to bring yellow in perhaps n an area rug. Any suggestions are appreciated!

How serene your room is. :) If it's very new, wait a while to see if one color/ blue is enough. I like that you have a brighter blue-green vase, which more of could add excitement [but where?]. A yellow throw over the chair.

If yellow in rug, imo a soft one so as not to detract from delicate art. The bookcases are a bit dark and detract from fireplace. What about just one? Softening plant/s in window corner?

Beautiful furniture. Love the color. Yellow as an accent would be great but not in the rug. Use it in your accessories. A yellow throw on the sofa, pillow with yellow on chairs. Something yellow on mantle. Lower art over sofa to 5" above back. It looks a little high. The bookcases are too tall at that end of room, can they be moved to other end? Mirror is a little too wide over mantle, try turning it vertically. It is easier to start with the rug but you should be able to find one you like with the teal in it. Nice job, lovely room

At least the bookcases aren't taller than the mirror etc. Mirror ok but that you mention adding warm color, what about something different above mantel in a warm creamy tone? Even soft yellow art? or ceiling ha!!?

A bold yellow rug may compete with the beautiful peacock blue on your upholstery. A warm beige that will tie in with the frames on your peacock artwork. Here is a beautiful fretwork rug we have at Ethan Allen, shown with a teal sofa. It's tone on tone pattern will break up the solids in your design.

Your furniture has traditional elements? I thought of geometric shape in rug but I think a softer shape.

Can you post more pics? I would remove the plants above the bookcases and lower the pics above the sofa.

This is just me, but I would add some red elements, like pillows or vases, and put the pictures on the wall and replace them with books in the book cases. The pictures are kind of hidden where they are... I wouldn't use yellow (even though it's one of my favorite colors) because you need something strong to balance the strong teal in the room (or whatever the dark shade of the couch is). You could also reframe the mirror over the fireplace to match the fireplace, or go with red. I'd suggest white, but it's not always a practical color; depends on your lifestyle and whether or not you have animals and kids.

HI -- The sofa is real nice but you have over done the blue ... too many different blues . The sofa is big and is the biggest piece in the room and that should be enough blue for this room . The blue on the walls is the wrong blue . I think "Gentle Cream " OC-96 by Benjamin Moore is a better color for the room. A neutral textured carpet with a bound or banded edge ( Restoration Hardware ) The chairs that you have now still work but a matched pair of chairs in a print with a tiny bit of blue but mostly a soft yellow print would have been better . You can either paint the bookcases white or replace with small console cabinets with mirrored fronts or have built ins done in white . Change the too big square mirror over the mantel to a round fancy antiqued gold framed mirror . I don't care for the pictures over the sofa ..again to much blue and that subject matter is over done . A nice big painting ..modern.. in a black box frame that has a thin gold accent line on it . You could also paint the ceiling " Cream Froth "OC-97 BM . leaving the crown trims white . Maybe darken the side tables or replace with ones that have thin black legs . If it was up to me I would even paint the fireplace an off black .

While I see you have matched your wall color to the light blue in your patterned chair, I'd have gone to a cool gray tone so the pattern stands out. Right now I think it blends TOO well. I like the various shades of blue you have combined. I would balance them with an area rug along these lines. Nothing too busy or distracting. (And repaint the walls). I'd also either replace your lamps for something more modern, or at least change the shades to simpler drum shades.

Hi, love the peacock and other shades of blue too....blue is probably one of my favorite colors! But I agree with the others.....almost too much of a good thing? Not sure what direction you're taking the space. But if you're looking to transition to something more modern/contemporary, perhaps incorporating some (simple) black and white elements could help you do that and break up some of the blue & create a more balanced look. IMO, black and white, as simple as this combination may seem, together create a strong (background) statement without "overpowering" the other colorways in the room.

You could then also sprinkle in some of the yellow you like or even chartreuse.

If painting is an option, I would tone the blue down a bit. If it's not, we can make it work. Along with lowering the peacock prints, I would replace the current mirror above the fireplace with a round one in gold. Here's one: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/carved-gold-flower-mirror/?pkey=cdecor-mirrors&

I would replace the current lampshades with seamless linen shades and add solid linen throw pillows to your sofa. Are your curtains white/off-white?

    Like the mirror. :)

Love your furniture, wall color and art. Some things I would tweak:

    • add a rug. it should be big enough so that 1/3 of your furniture is over the rug
    • the mirror over the fireplace should be in either wood tones or gold. that silver is bothering me. or should be some art, framed in the same tones, since is not reflecting anything special such as the outside.
    • I suggest the pop color is inspired by the rug you choose.

all of the above from overstock.

Shorter stands by fireplace and put one peacock picture above each. Round mirror above fireplace. Everything looks a little too square. Then something larger over sofa. Frontgate makes a terrific peacock rug with teals, blues, greens, and golds. Then pull the green or gold out into accessories.

This is beautiful. If it was my home I would add the rug and pillows as suggested in previous comments. :)

Coincidence that I had this open for another thread, but the closeup shows dark enough to ground the space, but with some of blue to connect? Sometimes you'll see an all blue room! :)

Looks nice! I would just move the couch away from the wall a bit. You know that thing about how having it pushed to the wall makes the room actually look / feel smaller/ more cramped?
