Not a pro - but in my mind it is a dead heat between the two. Based on other comments I have seen across other forums, neither window is desirable (maybe Milgard slightly). I believe you have answered your own question regarding Andersens level of confidence in their window, by only offering a 10-year warranty.

The Andersen 100 isn't a bad window at the end of the day by any stretch. If that gives you the narrowness that you are looking for, I wouldn't have an issue with either of those windows.

How do the installers compare?

I chose Andersen 100s for my modern home in western WA.

I like the Andersen 100, but have concerns about the warranty.
So I was leaning toward the cascade. But Milgard is local and reps have a good reputation for taking care of any issues. Milgard also allows me to have a dark colored exterior.

I understand neither window is a Marvin. I don't have Marvin money. I have ALOT of windows and a small budget. I am open for suggestions of a good value window. I would love to have a dark exterior (bronze or black).

Jn3344: how do you like your Andersen 100's? How long have you had them? Are they casements?

The Andersen 100s have both black and the "bronze" (brown black) exterior color choices.

I was looking at a very expensive Parade Home a year or so ago. I really liked the windows and I thought they must be custom steel frame windows. Then when I saw mine installed I thought "holy cow, I think those were like these!" So it was a nice surprise.

The exterior hasn't been painted yet and this is a month or so ago. Im not there so I never know whats going on there.

I will see if I have a good interior shot but theres no sheetrock so it looks rough.

I was out there a couple weeks ago. The casements have a very stable feel, as do the awning windows. There just happened to be a rep from the distributor and a tech out there replacing the glass in one. They were both very nice, seemed to take personal interest in these windows being perfectly installed. They said they are getting more and more interest especially from the more modern homes being built.

Vinyl is definitely the low cost alternative, and vinyl is a lot better now than it ever has been so for me that was always the default. But I went with these and the extra cost was significant but not nearly as much as Pella (Architect I think) or the Marvin. I have wood windows at my current home and I don't want to do the maintenance required for so many windows on the new house.

Similar number to what you are talking about I think.

With the vinyl I was going to make the clay (grayish tan) one of my exterior colors to blend.

Since I am currently living in MN I know that Andersen is a very well established company that cares about their reputation and has a lot to lose if their 100 series goes bad.

I did some research prior to making the choice. I am going strictly by memory so my details could be hazy, but I seem to recall reading the current formula is an improvement over the original one. I didn't see a whole lot of complaints out there when I did my search, I understand that vinyl is basically a sure bet and this may not be. I took the chance.

The exterior color is black. The hardie board and batten will be a warm mid tone gray. The cedar will be enhanced by a reddish toner. We were going for a look similar to these inspiration photos.

Love your inspiration pics, jn3344. We haven't picked all our exact exterior finishes but we do have some beautiful mahogany for architectural bump outs. Andersen should send you a commission check ;) I think you have me sold! A little off topic but are you putting I a glass garage door? We have a glass garage door that opens up to the yard side of the detached garage. Think man cave that you can open up during backyard bbq's. Anyway I have looked online and have come up with two California companies to get quotes from BP and Martin. I haven't had much luck locally, I'm in Colorado. What about you?

Yes, we looked at the glass garage doors. As with probably 95% of the people building out there, we cant get everything so we have to choose what we really want and what we can do without. I think its different for everyone. I did like the glass doors but because we don't really have any street presence, it was one of the first things to go when we needed to cut some to meet the budget.

We also had two bump outs, which were to be clad in some kind of special plywood. Those were pulled in and the house shrunk 6 feet in width which reduced square footage by 10% and eliminated two flat roof sections. I was sad about it but you can only do so much. It got us closer to budget, supposedly.

We are in WA. The glass garage door company here is Northwest Door.

Which Cascade window again? I think the Andersen 100 is going to give you the more organic looking window and with the narrow lines, fit the aesthetic of the home a bit better.

Make sure it is installed correctly and you should be all good.

Cascade casement 9300 (not win pro). I agree andersen 100 will get me sleek look. Milgard style line would also get me that look. What's pros and cons on those three?

Hello rebph, I would love to know what you decided to go with for your windows and how do you feel about them? I saw a home being built with Cascade windows with black exterior and it was beyond gorgeous however I have been told by a glass window provider/friend that black is a horrible choice where I live in Idaho due to the expansion in the sun. Would love your thoughts two years later...
