Considering Maytag counter depth fridge

Hi there. I am replacing a 10 year old Amana fridge that, while it generally works, is unbelievably loud, which is a problem because I have a loft style condo that is completely open. It make terrible popping and whirring noises.

I'm considering the Maytag MFC2062DEM. I suspect it's basically the KitchenAid KFCS22EVMS but with fewer bells and whistles. The Maytag has fewer reviews online that I can find, but they're all good, whereas the KA has a ton of reviews, many of which are very bad. In general I am looking for a french door counter depth fridge with no water in the door (I'd be ok with SxS as well, but they don't seem to make these without water in the door). I am not planning on hooking up the water/ice because I have already had a fridge break and flood my home.

Am I crazy for even contemplating buying one of these? I feel like every fridge I've seen has both glowing and terrible reviews, and it's a total crapshoot. It doesn't seem like there's any way to predict whether you're getting a better than average fridge or one that's going to leak water and flood your floors (this seems to be the particular issue with the KA noted - it has a condensation issue that leaks water that ruins your floors).

Thanks!

Hi, I'm considering this specific Maytag fridge too - did you buy it? How do you like it?
    Thanks!

I did buy it. It was just installed on Friday, so probably too soon to tell in terms of any long term reliability. It is an attractive refrigerator, and so far has been very quiet, so an upgrade from what we had!

Maytag and KA fridges are both Whirlpool and exactly same under the skin. Only differences are in appearance/layout. Prime example of why to take online reviews with a grain of salt.

I don't like my Maytag. Bought it new three years ago. Piece of junk. Lettuce freezes; ice cream is soft. Best case is to have separate controls for the freezer and fridge. If I could afford it, I'd get a Sub Zero.

^Top mount? Bottom mount? Side by side?

All bottom mounts (which OP is considering) I've seen have separate fridge/freezer controls.

bustergordon, thanks for the feedback. glad to hear it's quiet as that is a concern for us.

Hi bustergordon, I was just curious on your thoughts of your Maytag counter-depth fridge...any regrets/issues thus far? We are also thinking about purchasing the same MFC2062DEM model.

Knock wood, we like it. It has gotten *slightly* noisier, making occasional popping noises, but overall, it is much quieter than the fridge it replaced, and the french door/bottom fridge layout is, at least for us, better than the SxS layout.

Be sure to vacuum under the fridge, that ended the popping noises on my whirlpool...my pets had contributed a generous amount of cast off fur in only a couple of months. Now I have added vacuuming the frdge to the quarterly cleaning list, without pets you could do it less often. I believe this is true for all fridges, not just my fridge.

Thanks for the tip practigal, we do have a heavy shedding dog and will be sure to vacuum. Our kitchen area is open to the dining/living room so i am worried that any fridge we get will be heard across the house

A French door model is a bottom freezer design. there are no French door/bottom fridge designs. Unless u count the goofy 4 door models. I have had s/s, upper freezer, several bottom freezers and now have a CD bottom freezer model. I do not like French doors. But that is a styling opinion, not a noisy compressor issue.
