Hi Irisgal, when do the dutch iris bloom for you and when are they done blooming in your zone?

That one opened fully on March 20, 2015. The different colors open at different times. I can't remember if yellow opens first? A week later all those of another color open. It was a surprise they took turns. Gopher/s cleaned out the bed some years ago and these rescued ones are still recouping from being pulled just before bloom. Flower lasts 4-5 days. I'd have to verify that. I used to have some that produced 2 flowers per stem which nicely increased blooming time as they opened sequentially. I've never seen that feature marketed.

So when are they done? One specific cultivar group may give color 1 1/2 weeks. If you have white, yellow, dk. blue, med. blue ................. a month of bloom at best. Depending upon the winter by mid April they're over. Before the tall beardeds bloom. Sorry to be vague.

Gosh, that is a lot earlier than advertised on many sites which say they bloom May-June. I'm rethinking an order I just put in, though they're lovely enough to just keep regardless.

Those sites are probably in colder winter areas. Try to find their address and check the state. It's my understanding Dutch iris bulbs may overwinter in the soil as low as zone 7. We had a very mild winter 2014. Over the years I've recorded my beardeds opening with as much as a 3 week difference! So many variables.
