Was it watered when you were gone?

Haha! Yes it was watered twice in the two weeks I was gone.

What kind of environment? hot, cold humid, dry, full sun, shade and a rabbit in a hat. Or a crystal ball...potting medium- how old and what type...

Watering once a week, depending on other things, is probably not enough in clay pots. Plastic yes, not terra cotta. Unless you have a sponge for potting material. Especially new divisions. I use maxi-crop. An organic, non depleting Norwegian seaweed juice. A natural root stimulator. All plants love it. I add it to the fertilizer. Divisions get extra maxi-crop. But I can't tell you how much to water yet. Need more info..

Those look like older leaves. Normal shedding. Are you getting any new growth? It appears you are and they are healthy. I wouldn't worry about it. Don't overwater, wait for some new roots.

In another thread nearby, orchid names were discussed. They are important because once you have the name, you might be able to find growing clues on the net.

I think the correct name of this orchid might be Aliceara Marfitch 'Howard's Dream'. The Genera name was Beallara now changed to Aliceara in the great renaming.

I have the impression that Beallara might like cooler growing conditions than most of the Oncidiums and therefore that backs up the diagnosis of heat stress. Maybe that caused the yellow of older leaves and as Jane says with a bit of Tlc. it probably will recover

Shaved monkey I am in the rainy and overcast Pacific Northwest. It is grown indoors in the 65-73 degree range with 50-60 % humidity. I'm sure it reached the upper realms of this plants temperature comfort zone, though, for who knows how long. I will look into the maxi-crop.

Jane- there are 2 so far unaflicted new growths and one with a yellowing spotted leaf. The new growths are putting out some new roots.

Arthurm- thank you for the info. I am 2 years into my obsession with a 2 year old so I am not "up" on the nomenclature. I will, however, use that info to find some complete culture sheets. I will be attending my local orchid club meeting tonight as well; some local tips should be helpful.

Thanks all! I will observe, research and wait a bit I think. If anything, being a new parent and loving orchids has taught me a little patience.

Enough humidity. If it got too hot as a new division it could be water. Is the pot plastic or clay? What is the potting material?

Clay and medium bark -so too hot and too dry seems to be the answer. I thought so but wanted to rule out disease.

Depending on solar exposure I'd guess water 2 or 3 times a week.
