Soil testing would size that right up for ya.

I've used Minick's garden ready soil three times (and will use it again if I can get rid of my darn garden mole!) in various raised beds. It did well for me in the veggie garden from the get go and it did okay in the ornamental beds (those aren't as deep, and the clay under them wasn't tilled, so I'm sure that plays in to that). I know that K and K nursery sells garden ready soil that they get from Minick's .

do you mean soil testing the dirt I'm going to buy? The only soil that the veggies will be growing is whatever I buy.

I've used Minick Garden Ready at two houses for veggie gardens and have had a great experience with it.

I imagine either one would be fine, but my initial thoughts are that 50 percent compost might be to rich for a first year veggie garden. It would be great for a yard. Then again i have seen the sand wash out of minick garden ready. Is getting 4 yards of each feasible? It would be a good experiment.
