Tear the plants apart shaking them while doing so.

Jane, you should be able to separate them. While that are tangled, they aren't that tight....and a few broken roots won't cause too much harm. They look great!

I agree with Kristi that I would carefully tease those roots apart, doing it under water will make it easier. I've teased roots apart that were much tighter than yours appear to be so give it a try and as said above a few broken roots won't hurt much.

Thanks all. What I found is the roots are brittle and many broke. I am not familiar with growing Amaryllis, I wanted to check. That was a photo of one group. Thanks to all the wonderful growers on this forum, I have 10 more pots. Just didn't want to kill them. Not sure when they make their roots...I'm an orchid person and spring is the time for them. I'm assuming the same for these bulbs.

BTW, it looks like the roots are loose, they are not. There are 5 bulbs in that group and they are so intertwined, I will break a lot of roots to get them out. I'll give it a shot. I don't want to lose them.

So what does it take to get these bulbs to bloom? I have a bed about 2' X 5' with bulbs about 6 inches across. There is a lot of green leaves but not blossom stems, I put bone meal on them and watered them. What am I doing wrong????

Where do you live? Do you fertilizer with a balanced fertilizer to promote blooms? Look for the FAQ on this forum and maybe that will help you. Mine are in the ground, some sun, but filtered, leaf mulch for cold temp protection...they are big bulbs and bloom every year.

Wanderer when did they last bloom for you?
