Fireplace wall

Did you ever consider a built-in on left side for the tv? I like the tv chest and am struggling with this design decision in my living room. The right side fireplace wall is flush with fireplace and our left side is recessed. I love how you used the curtains and floor lamp to balance the area. Our space is very traditional with a large white mantel and would appreciate any design advice/decision for this room that I may be able to use in my room! Thanks.

Good eye @dent85, the original design was a built in cabinet to the left of the fireplace, however time lines and budget led to the stand alone piece. I would definitely go with a simple floating built in unit to maximise the storage and minimise its visual impact.

    Dear Brett,
Thank you very much for the advice. I like the idea of a simple built in. What would you use to balance the other side? Would a fireplace chair and floor lamp be sufficient?

@dent85 You do have a few issues to consider including; the position of the windows, wether the space either side of the fireplace is even, the amount of seating needed and the connection to other rooms. In this case we had a corner window to the view, so this swivel armchair worked for conversation and the view as well as balancing the TV cabinetry.
