How to film pool build timelapse?

I've been lurking for months & finally ready to sign a contract on a new pool! I LOVE watching the timelapse of your pool builds & want to do my own. I have a Nikon D5500 - but no idea how to work it I've googled & know if I use it, I'll need a timer, extra batteries & extra memory. Seems like a webcam might be easier? Any suggestions, hints, advice?

I used a GoPro for mine - I actually bought the go pro for the pure reason of doing a nice wide-angle time lapse of my pool build. I plug it in (so it will last all day), and put it on the roof line pointing down. It did a great job
