There are several different kinds of clips available. Which ones are you looking at using? Got a link to a pic of them?

are the ones you mean then they work great IME if you are growing single stem up string/twine. With Florida weave I only used them one time and had a few problems logistics issues with them but nothing major and did help in some cases but ties worked better. With my CRW cages, not so good. The branches that get outside the cages would have to be bent to the point of breaking to use these to reach back to the cage.

Yup, that's the ones, thanks for posting the link :) From what you are saying, sounds like they should work well for me.

The clips are an essential supply if using stringline support for high tunnel tomatoes. I purchased 2 cases (10,000 clips/cs) for this year. Probably won't use every clip but I'd hate to run out. I've also used to train trelissed cucumbers.

I will mention that the quality and design of the clips has gone down over the last ten years. I usually see 1% defective now.

Are those for just tying the stems or also fruits ? Somebody told me a while back that HD carries some version.

I find that I like the Duratool to tie my tomatoes to my Florida weave system. (I bought mine when they were called Ty 'mup.) The initial cost may seem kind of high, but probably no more than a thousand or so clips. I find that a roll of tape and a box of staples lasts me linger than a season when used on more than 100 plants.

I have used these in the past....and they can be useful. However, the key to understand (unless I am all wet) is: these are best suited to clip onto vertically hung string/wire. Vertical growing main branches are clipped onto the string as it grows higher. It can get dicey if you try to clip onto horizontal support. The angle is 90 degrees off in that case. The string "clips" into the "hinge" area of the clip when you lock the clip closed.

Ok. I see now. They are useful if you are using "STRINGING" support system.
