Trunk*

Looks pretty amazing to me the way it is. Round top won't make it a table. Also not sure it will survive outdoors.

I don't think you should paint it. I would scrub it clean and oil it, then put it next to new things and it will pop. Painting is a one-way street on things like this

Yes it should be paintable. I had a similar trunk, and had a friend paint it, and replace the leather handles with new ones. For the inside, she made cardboard templates to match each of the sides, covered the cardboard with a light weight quilt batting, and covered those pieces with a pretty cotton fabric. Then she attached those pieces to the inside of the trunk, completely covering the old, worn original trunk lining. It was clean and fresh inside, and I used it to store out of season clothes. If you are planning to set your trunk on damp concrete, you may want to think about adding small feet on the bottom of the trunk to allow a little air flow under the trunk. I believe my trunk was painted with latex paint.

I agree with cleaning it and oiling it, BUT, if your heart is set on paint, I have seen numerous old trunks painted with chalk paint. I also agree with lifting it up off the damp flooring of a porch.

Yes, it can be painted. Keep in mind that the trunk will not hold its value once it's painted or altered.

It's valuable? I just remember my grandma always wished that my dad would put it in the attic because it "ruined the pretty bedroom" with this old beat up trunk. Haha and I don't know how to use it without making the room look like a bachelors pad.

It looks like a nice old piece...if the interior is original but in ok condition, it might be worth a few hundred dollars. It will not survive a summer on outside patio or any rain. And the rounded top wouldn't make a good table top. If you don't want to use it inside, I would put it on craigs list.

Sell it on Craigslist as an Antique Trunk and buy something from Target that will last outdoors!

I think it's lovely the way it is. But that's just me. I actually have one just like it in my bedroom. I use it to store alcohol and other things that I don't want my kids to get into, lol.
