Ajuga Reptans Mahogany

I planted a couple of flats of this last summer. I noticed that a couple of them were very green, instead of being dark purple. I read somewhere that some ajuga varieties don't seed true, and I wonder if this is what happened to these two. If this is true, should I give up hoping these will turn purple, and will I always need to trim off the blooms before they seed and ruin the designated patches of this variety?
