10th Annual Quilt Retreat 2015

Hi Folks!

We are beginning the process of
planning for the 10th Annual Garden Web (Wandering Stitchers) Quilt
Retreat!! YAY! However, there's a hiccup.

When I
contacted Camp Cheerio, I was informed that Jim Hussey is no longer
working there, and that Jamie is now the point of contact. He informed
me, due to our group's size, we will no longer be able to arrive on
Thursday, that we can come Friday afternoon (2pm checkin) (with dinner
on our own somewhere) and stay through lunch on Sunday. Basically, keep
the same schedule as the other groups that come that weekend. Our
group size does not justify them giving us more nights or meals.

Obviously,
this doesn't work for us. The distance & expense that we travel
for this weekend doesn't justify one day of work time.

So,
where does this leave us? Beverly & Tim have been working on
researching options. The best option we have right now is a retreat
center that Theresa found for us last year when we had issues with
Cheerio. The Holston Center is a Christian camp/retreat center and
Beverly has been getting information from them.

They
have a motel style lodge (similar to Cheerio) with linens provided.
Some rooms have 2 full beds and private bath, and others have 2 twins
w/shared hall bath. Prices include the sewing space. Everything seems
very similar to Cheerio. They say their space will fit 17 quilters
comfortably, 20 will be tight... I think perhaps we can manage either.

Their address (if you want to map it out) is

6993
Hickory Nut Gap Road, Banner Elk, NC 28604 . It's actually not too
far from Stone Mountain. Due West of Winston-Salem, NE of Asheville.

Details
still need to be worked out in regard to meals, but pricing should be
about $300 (maybe less) for Thursday through Sunday. [Remember, we knew
Cheerio was a really good deal!]

It looks like we will be going Labor Day weekend, Thurs 9/3 - Sun 9/6. It's
possible that we take this this year, and maybe have our
choice of weekends for the following year.

If you are interested in coming this year, please let us know. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

In order for meals to be included, we must have 15 eating. There is a full kitchen in the lodge, so we could cook or order in if needed. They have been so very nice to deal with, I think we will like it there.

    Here is some more info.

The price is $75 per room. If you share a room, you split the cost. The use of the workspace is included in our reservation.

There is wireless internet and we can use the other facilities at the retreat (trails, fishing, lake, etc) so hubbies will have something to do.

There is no minimum # except for meals. We will probably end up having to do our own cooking, or live off the snack table. There is a a full kitchen with dishes, pots, pans, and a grill available if we want to use it.

Here is a link to the layout for the lodge:

Ok, gals, We are finalizing the plans for Retreat.

The 10th annual 2015 Quilt Retreat will be held Sep. 3- 6, 2015, Thurs thru Sun. We will be using the Guenther Lodge at the Holston Retreat Center as mentioned & linked in the previous posts. These are hotel style rooms, some with private baths, some with semi-private. The rooms share the same building as the sewing space, which also has a complete kitchen.

Cost will be $75 per person, per night unless you decide to share a room, in which case you can split the costs. As we get closer, we will work out our private meal plan, and will let you know the cost of food for the weekend....I don't expect it to be significant.

There will be a $50 deposit to secure your spot. It would be helpful for planning purposes, if you would put that in the mail to Beverly promptly, since we need to pay a deposit to the retreat center. You can message her directly if you need her mailing address.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask here.

We understand that the change in weekend precludes some 'regulars' from coming. We will certainly miss you, but hope that 2016 we will be able to pick a weekend with more notice so that you can come!

Please also let us know by posting here if you intend to sign up and send a deposit.
    Thanks, Jennifer & Beverly

Thanks Jackie, I'll keep an eye out for it.

I am composing a list of questions for the retreat ppl. If there is anything you can think of, please let me know so I can get them all answered at one time. I'm sure there will be more things come up but would like to get as many as possible at one time.
