Wow. I was wanting to know the same thing, Lisa. But I tire of flooding the board with mah insanity. This is all over the yard. Maybe because of the rain? oh wait.. sooorrry! But, yeah. I'm really hoping this is a type of vetch. Cuz that's bunneh food. And the price of hairy vetch is gnormously expensuv for an entire 50# bag. Um. Nope. Gonna scratch them up some wild stuff.

It probably is some kind of vetch. Whatever it is, it pops up in my garden occasionally and I know it is not something I planted, so I yank it out.

I noticed this evening that there's some growing near our property line fence, between the greenhouse and the fence. I guess it has been there a while and I haven't noticed it until tonight....because apparently it began blooming today and it actually was the purple blooms that I noticed.

I'm never going to promise to stop complaining and whining. Mostly about weather, of course. So, here's today's complaint: the high temperature topped out at 86 degrees and it was too hot! The cool-season plants looked miserable and both my creasy greens and garden cress wilted and threatened me with all sorts of punishment if the weather stays this hot. I promised them cooler weather for the rest of the week so they would stop complaining. (See, plants can complain, but they do it non-verbally.) While warm weather is nice, it seems like we went from cold to hot almost overnight, and all the cool-season plants haven't been able to adjust to that very well.

On the other hand, since we are so warm so early, the hummingbirds are back and the purple martin population doubled today from 5 to 6 to about 12. While the main group of Purple Martins usually returns anytime from mid-February to mid-March, we often have stragglers arriving well into April. Tonight after I put up all the garden tools, I stood and watching them making their last swooping flights around and around overhead before they came in for a landing at 2 of the 3 Purple Martin houses (the third is in the garage awaiting repair). Then they sat on their porches and chattered for a while, as the bunnies ventured out to look for dinner, and the cardinals visited the sunflower seed feeder for a final bedtime snack. All of it was perfectly lovely, but there was a voice in my head screaming "It is too early to be this hot!" But, we get whatever we get, and we're getting heat down here.

More and more, this year's weather is reminding me of 2012, and I had an awesome garden that year even though it also got hot awfully early. At least rain is falling here pretty regularly, and I hate to complain about that for fear it will stop falling.
