Morpheuspa, need help with soil test from Logan Labs 2015

You come highly recommended by our mutual acquaintance David Hall. He has been guiding me through a re sodding of my front yard. I have around 1500 sq. ft. of St. Augustine sapphire that I planted 2 weeks ago. I pulled the soil samples just before I installed the new sod. I live in northwest Florida, just across the bay north of Destin Florida. We have sandy soil. I've tried unsuccessfully to have that neighborhood envy yard, but no such luck. After much communication with David, I'm convinced my methods have been all wrong all along. Lots of water, have a local company come and spray it every month. Didnt work. Attached is the soil sample evaluation I received today from Logan Labs. I really really appreciate any advice you can give me. Im determined to have THAT yard.

The amount of organic matter in that soil is very low, to hold both moisture and nutrients in your sand that amount of organic matter should be in the 6 to 8 percent range. Organic matter in soils helps hold both moisture and nutrients and would be reflected in the exchange capacity (sometimes CEC or Cation Exchange Capacity) which should be in the upper teens to low twenties.

A nice yard in our area is hard to come by, and even harder to keep. I'm convinced I can do this with the proper help. I just don't know what organic matter consist of and what might do the best with these soil conditions. I appreciate any imput you may have. Thank you for commenting.

Organic matter is any waste vegetative material, shredded leaves or plants, compost, straw, hay, whatever vegetative waste you can get at the least cost.

Your University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service has much information about caring for lawns in Florida so talking with your county horticulturist can be a valuable source.
