The white spots are supposed to be there (tho' don't always show up on every FT for some reason). Have you checked carefully for mites, etc. at branching angles? And do you fertilize well?

Haven't seen anything that would suggest mites but I suppose that is always a possibility. I have been using regular MiracleGrow fertilizer (8/7/6) with every few waterings.

Have you looked at the roots (you didn't show the pot so it's hard to judge whether or not repotting/root pruning might be needed... can you think of anything at all that's different/changed recently - humidity, temps, etc.?

It doesn't seem to be in need of being re-potted. I am wondering if it is just over watering that is causing the leaf loss. I have been reading that these really do like the soil to dry out between waterings, not just the top layer, although it hadn't been an issue until recently. Nothing else has really changed that I can think of. It has been sitting in the same place and was happy there just a few weeks ago.

While FTs don't like wet feet, they shouldn't dry all out between waterings either. Has your humidity gone down in your area (less snow/rain) recently, because it is really critical that it get enough, and you didn't mention using a tray of pebbles and water.

Humidity probably has decreased recently and the tree is indoors so humidity is lower than outdoors. I have not used anything under the tree to help control humidity as you mentioned. Might be worth looking into. Thanks for your suggestions!
