solid wood vs engineered wood floors - help please!

Hi everyone,
We are picking our hardwood floor and we're being told that actually we should go with an engineered floor rather than the solid wood since the engineered wood is better if there is moisture in the house. I really don't know much about engineered floors - any thoughts on the solid vs engineered? We live in Northern CA. Thank you very much for any advice!!

We have engineered wood and love it. We are in a climate of extreme dry (cold) winters and humid hot summers. The flooring seems to move little. Have heard that expansion of wood flooring can actually cause the flooring to come up! So far so good going on 4 years since installation.

Yes, this is true. The engineered wood has layers laminated in opposite directions which makes it more stable than hardwood. This keeps it from warping as easy as the hardwood can.

As a floor pro i'll say Engineered is definitely the way to go with a humid environment. The good news is if you select a high quality American made product you can sand,stain,finish the floor just like you would a solid floor. Our Engineered flooring even lets you refinish several times just like solid flooring. :-)
