I think,the second one in the first pic would look nice. It is neutral enough to not fight with your artwork if you plan on keeping them.

I would suggest the first, second or sixth. They are neutral and will go nicely with the artwork.

I would go with something geometric, since your chairs and the frames are so geometric themselves.

Something subtle as your rug ant artwork are colourful. Is there blue in your rug? If so I would be tempted to pick up on that to bring it all together

I have an opinion on this...I think the wallpaper should be in the same tone as the taupe walls and the pattern should be a stripe, with the stripes in the same proportion as the print in the rug.

You would have to look for a paper as suggesting a right color is difficult from my monitor.

I like the largest sample you show, the geometric/lattice pattern. It wont close in your space because it has a nice large scale and light background. Have you considered using it above the chair rail? Much more balanced, and don't worry about the artwork, it will work together. Paint the bottom the background color of the paper, put paper above rail. New drapery panels on each side of the window in a linen look fabric, you can add trim to inside edge if you like, ceiling to floor and just coming onto the window glass a couple inches on the inside edges. not tie backs. Add a grass cloth roman shade hung at ceiling height.

Barbara- I was thinking about switching and doing wallpaper on top as opposed to bottom. I do like the large geometric the best.
Any suggestions on rugs. Getting that first makes sense too. I've been looking but am not sure.

I love JudyG's stripe idea. It works beautifully with your existing rug and wall colour. You could then focus your attention on a new window treatment. Would look wonderful!
If you really want to change your rug, start there. I don't think any of your wall paper choices work with your current rug.

I agree with Barbara. I like the large geometric one the best.

With your wonderful art, I would nix any wallpaper and paint the bottom the same color as the top.

The large piece of wallpaper you have there is much too big a pattern I think for that space..but then you have to love it.

I would go w wainscoting on the bottom n the wallpaper on top

What about painting the bottom a darker version of the wall color?

I'm glad that you pointed out that you were thinking about the large generic print for the top portion. it is too large to go below the chair rail in my opinion.

Love the large trellis pattern with the scale of the cutouts in your chairs.

Natasha, I wouldn't get too hung up on the rug first. There are SO many options out there! Check out Ballard Catalog, and just google area rugs, you will be inundated! The geometric, lattice type paper, is very fresh and current without being trendy. Typically a stripe is inherently more formal unless you go very very wide.

The Lattice will look great with a solid like a sisal or the new durable sisal look w a solid banding, or a more free form pattern such as modern paisley, damask or floral. It's all about the scale.if you go solid, you can pump up the look with great accessories on your table and sideboard... And don't forget the drapes w the banding on inside edges. Enjoy!

Your choices are lovely. imho, the wallpaper samples would be better eval if they were on the plain wall.....your eyes are affected by the current wallpaper. You wanted to see how they go with the paint - so put them on the painted wall- gently, so you are not distracted by the old wallpaper. Or even hold a light colored sheet over the old wallpaper to give you a more clear look. The wall paper pattern may be slightly different if on the top or bottom, but maybe not too much. More important is to see it both day/night. I like the less bold all over pattern. Have fun.
