Earth Box is too expensive. Suggestions, please

My original 5-year old Earth Box planters became infested with out of control aphids. The company that purchased the original Earth Box has made its marketing policies onerous -- such as forcing the kits to include 2 cu ft of soil and charging $9 for overweight shipping -- and I would appreciate suggestions of other suppliers.

Can you remove the aphids?

Also, Home Depot and Lowes sells what is essentially an Earthbox, for about $30. HD calls it City Pickers and Lowes calls it Patio Pickers. IIRC it still needs about 2 cf of soil, so the dimensions are different but the growing capacity is probably similar.

You can also make your own from a tote container. Check YT for instructional videos. Make it any size you want to, even a 5-gallon bucket size.

I make my own from 20 or 40 gal tote containers. It's quite easy just do a web search on "diy earthbox". You can also mix up your own soil mix cheaply.

Can you set out traps for the aphids? Order some ladybugs?
