After 1 a.m. the NWS added another 20 or so counties to the Freeze Warning and Frost Advisory areas. What a surprise! I hope the gardeners in those areas saw it coming before the NWS did and had covered up their tender vegetation.

So far we have stayed several degrees warmer than was forecast here, and I'm not complaining. We are having a totally backward year in our county, being warmer than forecast very often and wetter than normal. I'm also not complaining about that.

I have a lot of garden work to get done today because rain is in the forecast for several days beginning tonight. Darn it. Just when I was afraid the mud and puddles might be able to dry up, and we wouldn't want for that to happen. I hope to be outside as soon as the sun comes up.

We were supposed to have a freeze last night but it only got to 40. I was so glad because there was no way to cover everything, especially my fruit trees.

I was stunned to wake up and see that the current temp in Edmond ( according to the weather app on my phone) was 32 degrees!!! I flew outside thinking it had probably gotten much colder at some point during the night, and was so relieved to see my tomatoes looked just fine. Maybe my microclimate is a bit warmer, or being next to the fence protected them? When I went to bed last night they were predicting 45 degrees.

We had a freeze in our area. The Mesonet recorded 29 at Jay this morning. My min-max showed 32 for the low this morning, but it was next to the house. I had a wheelbarrow that was holding water from the Thursday night rain and it had a thin layer of ice on it this morning. According to the Mesonet we hit the freeze mark about 5:30 AM.

I had a little bit of nipped foliage on some seedlings, but other than that, it was good at my house.

Yes it was very cold, but nothing was damaged. I put some big water jugs down over the few broccoli and cabbage plants but didn't cover anything else. My first peas are only about an inch tall and the others aren't up yet. I put the first two tomato plants in the ground today on the high side of the garden. I have plenty so can take a chance with a few. Our forecast is for 40, but to be on the safe side, I moved the tomato and pepper transplants back inside. Hopefully the tomatoes can move outside soon. My ground is very wet and on the low side would be impossible to plant, but I am getting a few things on the high side.

it was 33 in my green house this morning according to my min-max thermometer. I waited and planted tomatoes today will finish planting tomatoes after church tomorrow got about 50 more to plant over next few days

Our low was 31. Hopefully no damage.

Carol, It seems like y'all are staying cold late, but maybe it is just that down here we lucked out (so far) and warmed up early. I hope you can plant a few things on the high side in the next couple of days.

Oldokie, I have almost half my tomato plants in the ground, and hope to get the rest in the ground this week if only the rain will stop falling.

I planted tomato seeds in three rounds this year, so have already planted everything from the first round as they went into the ground first due to their larger size. Some of them were pretty big and a couple bloomed the day after I transplanted them into the ground.

The ones that went into the ground next (I have half of them transplanted into the ground now) were started two weeks later, so near the end of Feb., and are medium-sized plants. They were about the perfect size for transplants. and I'll put the rest of those in the ground early to mid-week, as soon as the soil is dry enough.

Then, the ones I started 3 or maybe 3.5 weeks after the middle round are fairly small still, having had to endure a lot of cooler weather and clouds as they were grown entirely in the unheated greenhouse, unlike the others that grew for a while indoors on the light shelf. I may put some of them in the ground this week or may wait till next week as they are pretty small.

I kinda liked starting three separate rounds of tomato seeds this year, except for having to explain to everyone who saw my plants that the small ones weren't sick or damaged, but were just smaller because their seeds were sown 5 weeks after the earliest ones were. Having the plants in various sizes and ages kept me from feeling too pressured to hurry up and get them all in the ground on the first warm day.

Scott, How long before you can tell if the pecan trees got too cold? I know my natives didn't because we didn't get that cold and they only broke dormancy a couple of days ago.
