Anybody get frost?

It was 42 here at 4:30 a.m. when I looked and 32 at 6:30 when DH looked. He looked outside at sunup and didn't see any frost on the ground. Nothing in the garden looks nipped--peas, potatoes, spinach, lettuce all good. Some of the blueberries are bloomed out, some just budded and peaches, pears and cherries are in full bloom. I think they escaped. Time will tell. The greenhouse was unheated, but with the windows closed got warm enough in there yesterday that it only went down to 42 overnight, so the transplants in there look good. Hope everyone else escaped.

The wind chill got all my seedlings the night before last. I have a lot so some should be salvageable. I pulled them all inside yesterday. We're burning in the stove for warmth.

Dorothy, No frost here and no freezing temperatures either. When you were 42 degrees, we were at 46 degrees, and when y'all hit 32, we had gone down to 45 and then eventually would drop to 44 around 7:45 or so. I think our Mesonet station only went down to 43. I hope last night was the last cold night.

Bon, Plants are not affected by wind chill, so either temperatures at/below freezing killed your seedlings, frost damaged them or they might have suffered wind burn from the wind. Wind chill only affects warm-blooded animals, including animals, and not plants, pipes or cars.

Yikes! I hope y'all are not, indeed, burning in the stove as your comment "we're burning in the stove for warmth" seems to indicate. That's a scary thought.

That's pretty warm Bon LOL

I hope everyone makes it without any damage. I am waiting another week for my tomatoes and peppers to go out.

oldokie, That was too cold! I'm glad the corn was okay. We had a nice little shower too, but have been too wet so I wish all my rain had fallen someplace else where it is needed. When summer's heat gets here, I'll be thrilled to get the 0.62" of rain that has fallen today, but right now all it is doing is making extremely wet soil even wetter.

Kim, It is exciting that your transplanting time is about to arrive!

We definitely got a solid freeze in Northwest Arkansas. When I got up at 5y thermometer said 28 but I doubt it was quite that cold as we didn't seem to have any blossom damage on our pear trees. I haven't planted any frost sensitive plants other than a single tomato that I surrounded with three gallons of water and a 55gal barrel, it was fine.

I'm considering planting corn this week, but our random cold nights can really make gardening hard. Have to find that perfect window where plants won't freeze at first or burn up at the end...

I don't think we got a freeze last night here in SW OKC, but it feels cold. I was just getting used to the 80's. Next week will be planting time here.
