I like it without the ottoman, but now the side table is bugging me. Can you remove the table and bring the two chairs closer and use the ottoman longways between with a tray on top? Shove one of the floor lamps into the corner by the fireplace?

I feel that your room feels 'heavy or tired'. Some things you might consider is to paint the living room a color called Cap Ice I think is the name by Benjamin Moore. Actually any light light light airy blue or aqua. You could use one light value in living room and darker of same paint in the dining room to really outline your great dining table. Or leave the living room as is and do a pale blue in the dining room. I see your mantle blends in with your wall. I think you could paint it a deep brown or white.

Above the mantle you can leave the clock but put it a bit higher, maybe 4 inches, or put the print that is in the dining room over the side table above the mantle? I think the print would be my first choice, but either would work. Then find two cascading green plants in a deep accent color pots that you want to repeat in the two rooms.

You have a lot of small accessories and I think you, as was mentioned above, might want to take everything out of the room including curtains, and place on a table in another room. Then consider the biggest area that needs to be worked on. Carpet on floors, then curtains on windows, then lamps on tables and finally accessories.

Curtains need two panels on each side so they look billowy and not limp as they do now. You have four pairs so you could take the ones out of the dining room and put in the living room. I also think you might want to find some grosgrain or matte ribbon and put vertical stripes on leading edge of the curtains on the window side. If ribbon is two inches wide move it 2 inches in from the leading edge and iron on in a stripe floor to ceiling. You curtains look great all the way up to the ceiling, but could use a bit of heming so they just graze the floor but do not 'puddle'. Your table lamps are on very tall tables and tower over the chairs and look wobbly. Get lower tables or shorten your tables by sawing the legs down a bit.

The dark wood trim chair in the corner has a wall behind it. I think the photo picture on the wall behind the tan chair would look very nice above the dark wood chair. It has structure and straight lines as does the dark chair. The floor lamp needs to have the globe lowered all the way down so it is at eye level when sitting. The other floor lamp should copy that lamp. The Chinese bench looks good there.

Slide the beige chair more into the corner by fireplace and put the end table by it, on the other side of the sofa. Lower legs on the end tables on either side of the sofa and the other table so they are low and within sofa arm height within one inch up or down. Paint the square table with drawer a vibrant color that you have selected for an accent table.The low round stand with the plant on it by the sofa could work as an end table between the tan chair and the fireplace wall minus the plant. It has dark wood and is a nice contrast to all the white in that corner. Leave the wall behind empty to rest the eyes.

The print over the plants would look nice over the side table in the dining room.

Love the aqua curio piece. Put items that are all the same collectible in it on each shelf. All dolls, all perfume bottles, all sea shells. You will want to measure your width of shelves from side to side, total it, and the divide by three. One third of the space in just space, two thirds of the space in collectibles. So if you have 9 feet of glass shelf, 3 feet should be divided into empty space. and two thirds space have collectibles. You can rotate them out every month if you want. but this will give them space to breathe and be seen. The dining table is smaller and I think you need a smaller centerpiece on the table. Maybe one of the plants you have in the living room? And can again bring in more color with colored shades on chandelier or even just removing the shades for a cleaner look?

The antique books can be placed on their side, stacked, on the lower shelf on the end tables on either side of the sofa for easy access but still protected from a lot of dust.

Find a pair of lamps that you like. They can be in your accent color or mercury glass that will bring some sparkle in the room. If you decide on brass lamps to match the Pharmacy Floor lamps, then select lamp shades in an accent color.

Lastly find some fun pillows, print, solid, plaid, with a common color in them. Again you will be looking for an accent color. The accent color can be a blue as you have blue in your dining room, it can be any color in your existing prints, or a totally new color because you have a lot of neutrals in the room. And a nice color throw on the sofa will give some contrast on the sofa.

You can put woven wood roman shades in your dining room or have a print fabric made up into Roman shades that will give you a cleaner look in the dining room.

The stuff you have left on the table in the kitchen can be sorted and you can decide if you want to toss it, store it, or donate it, or display it in another room.....not everything has to go in all one place. haha

Sorry for taking up so much space and presuming alot, but I used to work in a furniture store and we were also redoing the room settings as new pieces came in and existing pieces were sold. You have a lovely room and it looks cozy but it can easily be brightened. What I have suggested won't take too long to do. Oh if you don't want to cut down those table legs, Target online has some really fun end tables that are low and would work in the room and are pretty economical.

When you log on to look at end tables you will see alot, just scroll down and a big pic will come into view. And you can see all that target as to order, and a pair will be great in your room.

It could possibly work. Were you planning on leaving the couch as is, or covering with a slip cover?

I have never had any luck with slip covers. Would love to replace it. But for now I'm going to leave it I think.

The Ice Cap is a deliciously pale blue color. So soft!

I think lighten the floor with. Nice bright but shuttle beige with a simple design in color would give you lots of light and bring out more of the Beauty with matching throw pillows to enhance the brightness and beauty you have in this room

I love the fireplace but I would see a change if you brought out color with natural brick look.

The Cap Ice is beautiful. I saw it in a model home last summer and it was pretty much heavenly. but paint is so personal. Excited to see how it works. I am hoping to use it in my house this fall. Possibly the kitchen and breakfast nook area, but the model had it in the master bath, hall ways, and laundry and craft room....it was an huge house!

Love love love the space in the china hutch. I bought a big hutch on emotion only, and love it, but it takes up precious space in the dining room. I love yours to bits. Plant looks great on the table. A round place mat in an intense color to give you contrast with the square table would be nice-----maybe deep turquoise, bright yellow/gold, or lime green. Mirror looks nice, very nice.

Pictured alone, the china cabinet looks beautiful, but in the photo of the whole room, it looks a little busy. Do a little experimenting with simplifying the items on the shelves and you'll know when it looks right. You've done a great job and you deserve an outing with the pup. ;-)

Try it with out the corner lamp and the mirror and table below it. Less is more and your chairs add a very nice architectural vibe to the room. That is what you want everyone to see and comment on.

You really made that hutch look lovely. I think it is fine as is, but you may want to empty out at least one of corners of the room, as was mentioned above.

The table you originally had next to the chair, the one that several posters commented was too high. Well, I liked it better: it has better proportion to the chair and had a comfy cottagey vibe to it. You could remove the top and cut the legs/base from the top and reattach the tabletop. You're doing great; you deserve a rest!

You don't need the vase with the sticks either. The rest of the stuff is beautiful. Keep everything you love looking at. Lose anything that just takes up space. You've done an awesome job!

I really like your china cabinet, and do not think I would change a thing about it. Changing the runner on the table for a colorful mat is a good idea, as is less furniture in the corners. The Ice Cap color was hard to see from the splotch. If it is palest blue, that would look good, but the picture looks grey to me.

Sleep on it and then wake up in the morning and see how you feel. You are very talented and the dining room furniture is to die for.....I so love it and that is has attitude.

The cap ice is light blue. Saw it in a model home last summer and remembered how pale it was. And it looks lovely with greys and warm creams.
