Making all white

If you’re good with AI, try every color you can think of - blue, green, pink, ivory, yellow. That house can be adorable. It needs some love. The hydrangea is a must!

Get a bigger light fixture and move it closer to the door.

AI frequently changes proportions. It also spiffs everything up. Your original picture, with the windows on either side of the door looks better, IMO --- if you ignore the fact that AI has given you gardens and hidden the bare patch on your lawn.

What I see with your before photo is the cement stairs facing sideways, giving you that short wall in front of your house. Making the stairs face from will fix that.

You have bare cement foundation showing. You can plant a few shrubs to hide it.

Your window trim is dingy beige and the black window doesn't match the others.

It just seems to me like you could solve these problems with far less expense that doing the AI picture. Power wash the house, paint the window trim white, open the shades and change the stairs to face forward and do a bit of landscaping. That's far cheaper than the AI version, which will include building the stairs, painting the whole house and landscaping --- aside from the major remodeling project.

And if I saw the AI pic, I'd probably recommend you put a window in that big, blank space to the left of the door.

It looks like the AI version has lined up the front door, the left side patio railing, and the left side planter box. It's also made the stoop have no depth.

Unless this is part of a desirable remodel inside, I agree with Sigrid that there really isn't much point to this experiment. It looks better the way it is, assuming some spiffying up.

Thank you all for your input. This is part of a much larger remodel. Behind the window on the right will be the new kitchen so window will be shortened to counter height. Some of the vinyl has already been ripped off exposing the original clapboard hence the dinginess. The house is about 110 years old. Most all of the landscaping was removed. The walkway did go out to the right but it is necessary for me to go down the centre. The front windows have been repaired many times over and I am not fond of gable roofs with centred doors and white siding simply because it looks too churchy. The street in front of the house is very busy and having a full width porch would be a waste of money because nobody would be sitting out there. One side however does offer some comfort. I feel it’s an opportunity to make some change with the only rule being that I stay within the perimeter

Also to the left of the door will be a small library with piano. I really find it funny when I walk down my street, which has some amazing mid-century modern houses along with traditional and modern houses, to find their big windows are covered up with drapes-day and night. Nobody seems to really want the intrusion of the outdoors. I suppose you could say that it’s an option however I don’t find it imperative that there be a window everywhere unless of course, I had a beautiful natural landscape to look at

I can’t see the steps and whether you have railings. I think those things are more important than removing windows to replace with an off centered door. Maybe consider painting the door a more eye catching color- or replace that one with a wood door, if that is your plan.

AI is a wonderful tool. I could not love AI more. In this case I believe that, yes, AI has adjusted the house to make your door placement plan appear better.

Based on what I have already purchased, I would say replacing the windows (must do) would be a more expensive plan than what the more desired plan would cost. The savings could be put back into a much better door. If you have ever renovated an old house then you would know how simply replacing a door and or windows could mean rebuilding the framework as more often than not the header does not meet code. Then of course there is the old clapboard with paint having asbestos and bringing the insulation up to code.

If you have to replace windows what does that have to do with moving the door? Your plan to move the door does not work. Your daughter is correct.

If I kept the windows they would have to be replaced as well as the door-all would have to be reframed. If I remove the windows I would just be replacing the door and reframing.

It might be less expensive for you at this point but your house will look off. Your daughter is right about that.

If AI could have made that new door placement look good without modifying the house, AI would have done so.

Can you make the house something more charming than beige…..? It is so sweet and I feel like it can be any light color and look like something out of a book. Unless you’re using natural wood planks, please don’t do beige…..😩

Thanks RedRyder. Maibec is wood, but I wanted to use JH 4” reveal smooth in keeping with the existing. New Windows have brickmould and I will likely have JH picture frame trim at least on the larger windows. The panic has set in to make a decision as they’re supposed to come very soon to install the windows and replace the siding around the kitchen.

I will probably stick with the white as I will get it quicker. Tea is also interesting or sand.

White can work. There are about a thousand of them, but white is good.
Is an ivory on the table? Depending on how much direct sun you get, a soft ivory could be gorgeous on your house.

Ivory is on the table. Do you have a recommendation? The front of the house faces west. The front right side of the property has a massive healthy Catulpa tree currently in bloom, a maple and an elm. I was planning on putting a spruce tree to the left along with the cedar. These trees cast shadow but direct sunlight is seen on the face of the house. Thank you.

I have two ivory paints in my house. My walls are SW Antique and my kitchen cabinets are SW Creamy. The latter can lean yellow more easily.
The walls of the kitchen are a pale, pale grey-green because my countertops are a gray-green granite. The difference in the wall color is so subtle it’s not noticeable. I had a color specialist help me with all of this. Here is a photo of one wall of the kitchen.
