Is your fireplace gas or "real"?

We placed a tv over our gas fp in our great room and viewing has been fine, but it's a larger room, so.

Its a new build, but the room is 21x 22, but once you remove the walk ways around the great room it is 14 x 19. It will be a gas fp. I will arrange the furniture the best way for a tv, but one side of the room has the fireplace (19 section). Hope that helps, the other thing I came across is a tv lift that I thought would be interesting with a coffee table. I have just read that placing a tv above the fireplace is not the best and can affect the warranty. So, I was looking at other options.

I wanted to give a "big picture" idea of how my tv has been placed above our gas FP, and the general scope of our seating and size of room/placement.

Televisions are so big these days, you need a big space for it. If there is room, you could put it on one side or the other of the fireplace....otherwise, you are stuck with that one wall. If it is too far away, is it inconceivable to section the room with a tv watching area and another for reading, conversation, other activities?

One thing I've learned is it's almost impossible unless you have a home theatre for every seat in the room to see the TV. I am not a fan of the TV mounted on a fireplace nor do I like it mounted on a wall with nothing under it. I guess it looks strange to my eye floating there.
