If you get a handheld shower it will be easier to wash the tub, a kid or a dog. If you get just a shower head, you will not have to look at the hose contraption for the handheld shower.

I would never have a bath without a handheld shower - easier to wash hair in bath, rinse bath. There are some very aesthetic models that incorporate the shower (as a long baton) into their designs.
