Shade tree suggestions for behind pool

Need some advice please, thinking of putting in 5 or 7 Dura Heat River Birch along the back of the pool. Is that going to give us some shade eventually? We are west facing and also looking to put in some type of evergreen shrub on the back fence line where the Wax Myrtles won't grow.
