You really can't fit dual sliding doors in the space. Have you seen the sliding glass pocket door option?

Thanks sooz001. I actually have dual sliding doors in there now, so I think it's possible, just a matter of less frame than what I have now that I think is the problem. I don't think I've seen a sliding glass pocket door- sounds like something that would have to be custom made ($$$?)

Would you have room for a shower with a curve so the door could slide around into the shower? Something like this one.

What about a bifold, frameless, glass shower door unit?

Typically they open inward, so enough width to enter, but not taking up the entire room like a swing door.

Another option would be barn door style, with two small swinging doors if you don't have enough room for a single door to swing.

A frameless door will do the best job of making a small bath seem more spacious. I'm surprised that you were told that the door would be so small. I have done a frameless installation in a 34" wide space and it has a 26" wide door and I've done a 28" wide door in a 41" wide shower. There is a good reason that sliding doors start at about 46" - an installation in a more narrow space when provide too small an opening.

thanks everyone. Levity was the only one that I could've used, but seeing it in person I didn't like the "handles" and it seemed a bit flimsy with the track and the glass. Custom might just be the way to go unfortunately.

I have found that 'custom' doesn't always translate into prices in the stratosphere. Many times, spending a bit extra on something custom for the particular space solves all your design dilemmas, and will satisfy the look you are trying to achieve. A good glass professional, especially one that specializes in shower doors, will take into account all your priorities and measurements, while keeping the focus on how the door looks and functions in your particular bathroom. It doesn't cost anything to call in two or three professionals for their opinion and bids. Then you can better decide once you have all the information, their ideas, and the prices in front of you.

Kohler makes several adjustable doors for a 44 inch shower. Mine is only 38 and looks beautiful. Other than Kohler you are going to have to get a custom made frame less door which are beautiful.

Have you thought of thirds instead of half? Perhaps a frameless where two thirds slide away would give you the room you need. I have not seen this in a shower door, but I have seen it in an exterior door.

I have a motor home with a lovely little shower door that moves completely out of the way... it is in thirds and there is a track around side of the shower... makes for a nice opening and gives plenty of room to get in and then with a simple pull it closes.... love it..

Most glass shops or local window manufacturers will come to your home, measure and custom design a door for your space.

I ran into this problem recently with a client. We scrapped the idea of a glass door AND the traditional rod and used a curtain tension wire instead. Much more modern, sleeker, and with a light and airy curtain you can still have a lovely effect.
