Is it normal? I'm not sure. But it's also happening to 2 Phals of mine as well, so it can't be all that abnormal. Enjoy the blooms!

A spike starting up again is pretty common with Phals. If you want to encourage this, trim the spike just below where the lowest flower was (after they all drop, of course). It does take a lot of resources for the plant to rebloom like this, so don't encourage a weak or sickly plant to rebloom.

It's common when all the flowers are still on the spike and have been for months?

In my experience: Yes, it is fairly common for phals to start forming new buds on the end of a spike with existing buds. It's like they got a second 'growth spurt' or something.

I also think these flowers usually look a bit better than the side branch flowers you can force by cutting the spike above a node.

I have found that the spike can stall when the temps go too low. The plant will wait for warmth and start up again. Its happened to mine. I've had a spike sit for a couple of months before resuming. I think its the temps.

That makes sense. I've never had flowers last so long on mine. They are usually all gone by the time spring rolls around.
