Drawers under the cooktop?

As I've been scoping out cabinets and inspiration pictures, I was reminded that my mom's kitchen has a 36" cooktop with drawers underneath - a split top, and two rollouts behind cabinets. No false front or anything, actual functional drawers at the top. She got custom cabinets done. Is this not standard with most cabinet/cooktop combos? Or was she just lucky? She has a Miele cooktop, not sure if that matters. It seems most cabinet places have "appliance bases" for cooktops, but they are false fronts for the top. I want as much storage and drawer space I can get! Is this only possible with custom cabs??

I have a 36" cooktop with a 36" stack of drawers underneath and they are all functional. My cabinets are Shiloh and they are semi custom. They did have to notch out the back of the top drawer.

I have a 36" Wolf cooktop with 2 drawers directly underneath. Under are 2 deep drawers for pot storage.

My contractor had to do a custom cut at the back of the upper right drawer for the gas line, but it's really not seen unless you pull the drawer completely out.

Oh yay, you have given me hope!!! Those are Shiloh cabs? Those are great!

Drawer depth is very cooktop dependent. There have been many discussions on the appliance forum, mostly regarding induction cooktops, where the specs from model to model vary widely in terms of what clearance is required beneath. I recall I had to change from my original GE cooktop to a Bosch to get my shallow utensil drawer. Miele generally has a nice, snug clearance. Check the specs for the cooktop you have in mind. I love my utensil drawer. And even though the Bosch was a little more spendy, I ended up with a superior cooktop so it worked out. Good luck.

we've got three drawers going in under the cooktop (induction). top one is geared for spices and then next two are deeper and i think will likely be for pots

We haven't picked out a cooktop yet - still in the design and shopping phase. But good to know that I should check for clearance!

We use our top drawer as a utensil drawer and got the Bosch for the same reason as MizLizzie. As others have done, we taped up the hanging vent underneath so it doesn't hang down so far (but still vents) and had the drawer notched in the back. We had intended to use that drawer for spices but thought it might get a little too warm there. It's a perfect spot for utensils.

Thank you! It's from an online source called Tile Daily. I was very happy with the tile and the price but from what I remember, their website could use some work. Here's a close up...

I have a Dacor 36" gas cooktop with a 3 drawer cabinet underneath it. To clear the gas line/valve and lower edge of the cooktop, the carpenter did have to modify the drawer box by cutting down the sides and shortening the depth. He also added little wedges of wood at the back of the box so that the shortened drawer would fasten to the self closing glides and still be full extension. As you can see we just store miscellaneous utensils in the drawer but we do like having this extra space.

Your kitchen is just beautiful! What is the countertop??

Ours is similar, and also used for utensils. I have wondered how hot it gets there. Last week, I had a cast iron griddle on the center hob at a medium heat for 45 min. I checked the temp of the drawer afterwards with an instantaneous IR thermometer and it was barely over room temp, maybe 1 or 2 degrees, if I recall correctly. Will collect more data!

Hi. I also would love 3 drawers under my cooktop 1 for utensils and 2 for pots. What depth were you all able to get on your drawers under the cooktop? MY designer says we will need to make cut out in the cabinets similar to the bathroom cabinets. But there isn't any plumbing under the cooktop? She is suggesting cabinet doors which I've had in the past and think its a waste of space. We have selected the bosch electric cooktop. I'll attach a picture from the installation instructions. I would think a Thanks in advance
