is there another place to put a wall oven?? like a pantry?

There is no pantry. It is a relatively small kitchen 15 X 12. The kitchen is still in great shape from the 1999 remodel so I cannot justify relocating it. Installing the wall oven closer to eye level as a wall oven ( I prefer that) would take away needed counter space.

Are you able to show us more shots? Let's face it, installing the oven where it is was less than desirable - as you said, the 3 drawers interfere with function. Do you use a full size oven often? In small kitchens, the new larger counter top convection ovens may be an option to consider. I use my Breville convection/toaster oven often. You said you have limited counter space. Would you consider removing existing oven, since replacing/repairing does not seem to be a good option for you, and making a cabinet where it is now. You could pull your large convection toaster oven in and out when you need it. I don't know if this would meet your needs or not?

what a conundrum for you! It looks like you will have to choose amongst some unperfect choices. If the other aspects of the oven operation are acceptable to you, then I would probably just replace the control board of the dacor. There is a problem with this choice, in addition to the cost of this repair. Obviously there is a design flaw which allows the mother board to overheat which limits its life, so it will fail again. The Bosch will be hugely expensive plus the cost of installation. Do you use your oven often? Would you be willing to spend $400 to purchase a good sized countertop convection oven from Breville? then you could use your current dacor only for storage. LOL. or do you have room in your garage for a stove? you could pick up a used free standing stove on Craigslist for under $100, hook it up in the garage and use it once a month when you wanted a big oven.... I live in the tropics so do not use a range oven as it heats the house. I use the Breville counter-top. Is the cost of a new Dacor oven acceptable? they have probably redesigned it for greater longevity. I believe you will have to figure out the cost of each choice and then take action based on the cost. Best Luck. I do understand your frustration.

to clarify to Visualizemaven: As it is, the oven does not interfere with the moving of drawers at all. But if I replace the oven with another make oven that has a handle that extends from the face of the oven, I will not be able to open at least one of the drawers.

I appreciate your suggestions to use a countertop oven which I do use most of the time! I still need to have and occasionally use a full sized oven working in the kitchen, also. Of course, I will need one to sell the house, even if it is years away.

I just spoke to Dacor customer service. They no longer make the control panels for my model wall oven(stopped making them 7 years ago!) so I will need to get a new oven. I will continue to look for one that has no or less then 1" handle from the flush face.

yes, I understood - speaking of selling your house, buyers will most likely complain and notice that the drawers are too close to an appliance which needs to be opened and closed - LOL! They say don't live in your home today for the prospective buyer tomorrow. I tend to agree. Your prospective buyer may want to gut the kitchen.

We live in a neighborhood where houses are being knocked down left and right to make room for "Mc Mansions". Will our planned and desperately needed new kitchen be demolished down the road or will someone love our original house the way we do now? Live for today - who knows what tomorrow will bring! :) Like someone said above, you do have a conundrum. Good luck with your decision.

Feel your pain! I also have a Dacor (dual fuel range from 1998) in the same position in my kitchen. When we redid the kitchen, the cabinet guy did not leave enough room to fit these new ranges with the huge knobs and handles without impacting the opening of the drawer. We are about to have quartz countertops installed, but would like to fix the 'corner' so that we can purchase a new range easily. We've been through multiple replacements of the control board and other issues with the Dacor. I understand they have not resolved any of these issues. I spoke with a cabinet maker and he suggested making the drawer smaller in width by cutting off a piece on the right and attaching that piece permanently to the cabinet and making the drawer box itself smaller. Not sure how that would look, but we only have one drawer with 2 doors below it. The other option being considered is just reworking that whole cabinet to the right of the range. I hear that Wolf is making a flush wall open without a handle (coming out in May and very expensive) that you push on the door to open it. Maybe less expensive brands will start doing the same and your oven will last until they do!! Please let me know if you come up with anything.

HI -- You will either have to change the oven location and or the cabinets or just change the handles on the drawers to flush mount . Is your kitchen so small that the oven had to be put into such a small corner . The corner should have had a spacer or another cabinet in the corner before the oven. Maybe your kitchen needs a rework because your struggling with the appliances . Also don't struggle to repair an old appliance ... it's not worth it !

Yes I agree with the posters about the odd location. Sometimes you wonder if builders live in houses. I once had a house with no first floor closet. I've attached some recessed door pulls. You might have to get a cabinet company to remake the fronts if you can't do it your self. Most cabinet companies will do that or they might have someone on staff who likes to do small jobs on the side.

Small kitchens require very careful planning. In my experience, I have been able to vastly improve functionality in tight spaces like these by reworking the entire kitchen. It is amazing how much space is lost in the corner between your drawers and the oven. If you plan to stay in this home or resell, it will be worth the investment to start over. The use of frameless cabinets and a good working triangle(how you work between your sink, cooking and refrigerator) can be mastered by a professional interior designer.

Sympathies with the Dacor problem, BTDT. I'd like to second a suggestion from d7e001 about making the drawers smaller and cutting off the ends nearest the corner so that the drawer(s) can clear the sticking-out handle of the new oven. This drawer style looks like inset, so it'd take a pro to make the alterations look nice enough to pass muster. Chances are good that you'd be the only person ever to notice.

Hi Faday - I think Frigidaire and GE have swing door ovens that can open either way for like $1,000.

I have a similar situation but I am in the planning stages. I have only found Bosch and Dacor that have flush handles. Any others to consider? I am leaning towards the Bosch. Also, Bosch has models where the door can swing left or right. That might solve your problem.

Thank you. We are now thinking of buying the Bosch oven with the door swing to the right. I will look for the Bosch with a flush handle. Wolf is reportedly coming out with a flush handle soon.

I think I spoke too soon about the Bosch. I may have been looking at an older model but, now, I can't find the flush handle Bosch. What i did find was the Dacor Rennaissance Millenia that does have a flush handle and is totally flush within the 25" I have to the edge of the countertop and the drawer on the cabinet that is perpendicular will open. I don't get the side swinging door but this will work. The AJMadision site is excellent.

Did you ever find a solution? We ended up having a really talented carpenter convert the doors into drawers and add additional filler so that we'll be able to get the range of our choice when it is needed. This change totally eliminated the blind corner, but everything has fit into the drawers (blender, food processor, etc.). Plus, I no longer have to crawl into that space to retrieve heavy items.

That sounds like a wonderful solution. Thank you for thinking of me. I also love drawers and have drawers only in the kitchen below the counter level for convenience. There is plenty of room to add a filler (even more drawers) but then I would need to have a longer countertop made (even for a small filler) which would be a extra expense. Instead of reworking the kitchen I plan to buy the side door Bosch Benchmark oven when this one gives out completely.

I see that I am not the only person dealing with this exact type of layout. When we bought the house, it was not until after that we realized one drawer would not open and the door below it would only about 10 inches. The last owner put in a slide in that wouldn't allow the drawer to open more than an inch and the door problem. We just lived with it, but now the control panel went out on that slide in. It seems the slide in's now protrude even farther. Two additional problems to deal with now... First, we have to try to match and replace the front part of the counter to put a counter\top stove since it was cut out for slide in. We also will put a single oven below it. The other problem is that we only have gas hookup there and I can't find one single gas oven. We have no choice but to run an electrical line there and that will not be an easy task. The other problem I have is that the ovens mentioned here are all in stainless and all of my appliances are white. I am truly open to a simpler solution. Ideally, that would be finding a single gas oven in white with a flush mount handle or right side handle opening. |'ve literally spent 4 days (and night) trying to find a stove or counter top/single wall oven to begin this project. We do have a small island that we can use the counter top for to replace the cut out. We've found Corian that is almost identical that we can use to replace the island counter top.Any help is appreciated! And I thought I was the only one who had a lousy stove layout design. Thanks!

I sympathize with you and hope you get your problem solved to your satisfaction. My problem was a bit simpler as I never had difficulty opening any of the drawers (and the new oven needs no countertop changes). My problem was only apparent after I needed to change the malfunctioning Dacor oven to a new oven that also had no handle to allow the drawers to continue opening all the way. I would never buy a Dacor appliance again. It may be difficult to find a white oven as that color may not be as common now. Bosch ovens come in black and stainless and you might look to see if they make the side door in gas before you change to electric. I would prefer gas but it is not offered on my street. Thank you! I think we may have found something that will work with the wall oven since the handle will be just below the drawer that is currently obstructed. A simple 30" flush mount stove slide in would sure eliminate all this whole ordeal.
