2015 Spring Round Robin African Violet Exchange

Log: Date the plant was shipped. Who it was shipped to. What was removed from the box. What needed to be replaced if damaged. Number of items that were replenished in the box: Name of person who sent it on and name of person it was sent to. Tracking number. Any other details the recipients should know about. Do not list what you put in the box, let it be a nice surprise.

Either or both. We can do plants or leaves, when I said plants, I meant to say "Plant material," which could be leaves or baby plants.. Some people said they want to send chimera flower brackets. But that might have gotten vetoed off the list as too difficult to propagate. Linda said we can send small plants. Someone else said, perhaps send them without the soil, just wrap them well and put in a baggie. that is so the postage won't be too heavy. I plan to send leaves to make it simple. I suppose if we send leaves, they should be protected in such a way that they don't bump up against bigger items. Maybe insert each leaf set in a baggie. Someone suggested inserting the baggie inside a toilet paper tube. I have not done this before, so I don't know if the box will be a standard priority mail medium size square box. I will describe it when I get it as I am second on the west coast list II. I plan to send either what was requested or leaves that I know will last a long time in the box and propagate easily, plus some extras not on the lists as insurance, since I am at the beginning of the list and want to make sure the leaves survive a few trips around the country.

Bump, Everyone, use Linda's thread, not this one. Hers is entitled "Spring 2015 Round Robin African Violet Exchange"

I did not realize that Linda was setting up this thread, so I had set it up as a test but now I can't remove it. So, you can refer to this one for a suggested format of the kind of information it would help to include for when you get the box and ship it out with comments in a separate section. That way, it will be easy to follow. For myself, I am toward the top of the list. So today, I have prepared all my plastic baggies for what I will put in the box. On the day I ship, I will pluck the leaves to they are fresh. I have ready a small seedling container for the leaves I remove from the box, plus the potting medium. I know from past experience, if i don't pot up the leaves immediately, they might not make it. Have fun, everyone. Joanne

Since you are so good at finding how this forum works, I've bookmarked Linda's post. Now how do I find the Bookmarks? I used to know everything about GardenWeb, but this one floors me. I'm computer literate, but you need extra smarts to get around this forum. Thanks for all the help you've posted.

Eileen, you find the bookmarks on your home page. To get to your home page, click on your own name on your posting. Then you will see the banner with the headings. Also, you can get notifications through your email when there is a new posting to any thread you are following.

At work, I go through this at work all the time. I live very near "Silicon Valley" where all these new formats are being tried out, so it is a matter of survival to try to learn to navigate my way around. I try to be detailed when I post so that people will be able to follow along and we don't lose GW folks.

Even if you can't find the bookmarks- you can always google Garden web african violet exchange and that will take you to the RR page/exchange page--- or google-- Garden web african violets- and that will take you to 'all talk' about violets page. I finally got to know how to get around and it's really not hard. I think we all just hate change, LOL!
If it works, don't fix it! :)
